Or wars with a big winners at last night's Tony Awards.

But Broadway general takes on the top prize -- profits surging over 5% year over year.

Get Davenport -- -- -- producer joins us right now for his take on this year's awards so no surprises last night though right.

No surprises to the big surprise for us we hit the trifecta this year grosses were up attendance was up in just a fresh off the wires ratings for the telecast last night were up almost 10% I'll.

Mean something else we think is driving that I mean.

It seems to have had the feel of the telecast other in -- year tone to it right I mean -- this convert more reflective of the way people are feeling and that's why you're seeing these improvements.

Part of it you know this is a market like any other markets driven by product and this is an incredible year.

Whenever we have something like book of Mormon and war horse anchoring the Broadway season people tune in they wanna see what those shows are are doing.

What I tell you here in New York it you know about the other shows that are year round that the toys come into town to see.

But what keeps Broadway -- -- mean what what wouldn't.

At the top line and gets few of them live in New York to see more gets to a coming to town and see more than just we kid and -- of the standbys The Lion King.

Well -- there is a general a trickle down effect that usually happens New Yorkers rushed to see show's first.

And typically everyone wants to see what a New Yorker -- so Boca Mormon do those New Yorkers rushed to see first and now it trickles down to the -- and the folks that are at a town takes a little bit longer for those.

Information about shows you get to them but eventually they do.

Is it interesting to -- that the backlash from the whole Spider-Man.

Which has been into Bob Hope but sounded very optimistic that they're opening and by the way -- on the -- -- pretty funny last -- and we used to be famous for being.

Continue to but is it telling that that really didn't take away much.

Yeah I mean no one of the reasons I think the telecast was so successful -- we were just very comfortable with who we are -- and yet to sit and look we we had a tough year but we're gonna laugh about it.

Spider-Man actually could be one of the biggest turnaround plays you've seen.

It could have been a masterful stroke coincident or not that they delayed -- after the -- because they could be.

Now next year's big what are you -- let me ask.

-- this can you saw the show last night perhaps -- My point is did you did you hear the number what do you think of the music and the performers forget all the special effects from the craziness I mean -- think this has.

The props to actually continue to drive audience.

Well look they definitely have gotten so much press that people are talking about all over the world people I know from Oklahoma that have never seen a Broadway Show.

They call me say hey what's going on with Spider-Man -- -- know their money do you think of the performance last night.

What -- I think it's -- last night.

I thought the music was very good but they still need to -- me a bit more but it's the flying it's the spectacle which is always driven Broadway.

And that apparently got to go down there to see it's very hard to duplicate that on the stage of the beacon theater.

Orders that was flying there's a spectacle but on the other side of that story though is the great acting.

Great story lines great music that doesn't take all the explosions in the fireworks and everything else when as a producer you that so much money.

What are you looking -- in terms of putting on a show because you've got to get that money back are you willing to put sync all that money like what has what happened to Spiderman -- you looking safe.

Let me get Nathan Lane -- -- get some of the great stars and put together a great show based on the star.

You gotta go for the show first if you look at the top ten longest running musicals of all time.

They're actually not star driven vehicles only one of them opened with stars the the shows that last are the shows that -- -- exactly what you just have a great story that's the foundation and key to a long running it.

All right so well coming up new season when you most excited about.

Well most of said about my own -- producing -- fell on Broadway in the fall which is sound written by the same composers wicked.

But you know it's actually very late season coming up this is a very crowded season another reason why the -- were so we -- I think fourteen musicals for two -- -- in the spring.

So it's a little quiet right now there's little little calm before the storm so god spoke coming on the fall in the flow -- that Erica this is as analysts here at channel side.
