Well returning to today's meeting between the freshman congressman and the secretary of the treasury.
Joining us now congresswoman -- -- She was in the meeting today with secretary Geithner -- concluded just a short while ago and she says secretary Geithner.
Doesn't get it.
Congresswoman great to have you -- this.
Give us the sense of that meeting.
-- thank you for having me we certainly appreciated the secretary coming to visit with us it was a bipartisan meeting.
So they're all in freshman class of Republicans and Democrats were invited and we just wanted some clarity you know the president has not given us -- plan.
Not one that weakens boring compared to the Republican plan and we wanna tell -- is going to -- that he was actually going to fulfill his.
Position as a leader of this country and tell us what his plan is for raising this debt ceiling.
And know what the solution is going to be if we don't race.
And the response.
-- response was that clearly the president does not wish to deliver his plan.
He wants those discussions to happen behind closed doors I think that's a grave disservice to the American people they -- They certainly deserve to be a part of this conversation nothing that we -- -- should be behind closed doors where they can't be a part of it.
There can be no real comparisons and tell a public plan of what the president desires to have happened can be evaluated by everybody and then we can talk.
Is it is that also not possible congresswoman that this is an opportunity for you for the Republican leadership to put forward a plan.
That is in the nation's interest that deals with the very issues very important issues that you -- -- that is reducing spending reducing spending significantly.
Conjunction with any debt ceiling in -- We can know we've been leading since we came here in January mean the fact is that the house has been the one.
And the house Republicans has been the ones have been pushing the agenda and leading on these issues when this country deserves to have its presently.
So that's truly the clarification that we needed another question that we have for secretary Geithner.
Was you know if the debt ceiling isn't raised what's his plan.
As secretary PS of job and a duty to tell us and to -- forward -- enough to come forward and tell us what his plan is.
If this doesn't get done by August.
Well senator Pat Toomey is put forward a full faith and credit.
On legislation that makes great sense given the frankly the time constraints that now you're under.
Where do we stand -- that there what do you think the likelihood is that that measure.
Could move forward.
I think it's certainly getting some consideration in the house and we'll continue to look at all of our options as we go forward but the fact is as.
Even secretary Geithner all the Republicans all the Democrats in the -- recognize this is going to be an opportunity.
To truly turn our country around to start making better decisions we just are having a difficult time agreeing on.
What needs to be done this president wants to raise revenues wants to raise taxes.
We believe that that's not the way do we grow the economy create jobs you grow the economy but -- -- -- -- -- Not growing the economy creating prosperity generating prosperity generating wealth generating jobs 45 million of them needed.
And we're and and we have and congress frankly.
-- focused on one part of that which is to reduce spending entered.
I'll bring down under control and -- it's under control.
But at the same time the focus on the millions of Americans are desperate for jobs seems to be lacking self.
-- yeah it does and that is a key component that's our number one focus is way to get people back to work.
And our tax system needs to be more fair.
We need to make sure that it's lower so it can be with other countries so that our businesses can create those jobs that we need.
And we need to make sure we equalizer in this government needs to quit picking winners and losers and the president's plan does exactly that.
Financial interest in -- we thank you for being with us here -- -- I appreciate it.
