Us is they just left that meeting the topic of tax reform.
I came up remember earlier.
In this program -- the democratic congressman rob ventures from New Jersey -- And we were talking to him about the possibility of reforming the tax code and closing the polls and all those types of things up.
Congressman Connie Mack has made his way in front of the camera now in now Washington DC there is right outside the White House.
So the -- let out I mean I guess that the thing I'd just leave it opened the what did you take away from -- what went on there.
Well you know I I think it was a rehashing.
The same arguments.
I'm not sure that any -- ground was found.
The the president said something though that struck me is as -- he's he called.
Low taxes and experiments.
That somehow we were experimenting in low taxes.
And again this goes to the point of whose money is it anyways I think the president thinks that.
Government is entitled to the people's money as Republicans we believe that it belongs to the individual.
And we should only be funding the things that are necessary.
But I thought the meeting was you know it's fine to have a meeting.
But the substance Kevin McCarthy after very pointed questions and he asked the president if he would put forward.
A set of principles and guidelines to move forward.
On how to deal with the debt and the deficit and the president basically said no.
We're not gonna put those out and we're not gonna put a bill out we're gonna let you all take the lead because we don't he doesn't -- -- take the political.
Shots that would come from putting out his own -- so I thought that was this morning okay so that was the context of what I was reporting earlier is that the house.
Leadership that you're saying congressman McCarthy took the lead on this but.
-- were really pushing the president for a specific plan on how to deal with the debt crisis and it doesn't sound like in court will get the other side of this a little -- that Iran but you're saying.
That the response just wasn't there -- to deflect the question did he not answer directly -- -- that actually.
Over the what was the back and forth like.
No he said specifically that he wasn't gonna put out his own plan from that what he wants is.
To be able to announce a joint plan basically that the politics of this if he doesn't want a lead on it because he doesn't wanna take that shot.
Look there's a way we can solve the deficit.
And we can do it pretty easily -- sponsored legislation.
We would cut 1%.
A year for six years -- cap GB cap spending did 18% of GDP.
We balance the budget in eight years and we've cut seven point five trillion dollars.
We can do -- it just takes the political courage to do it.
You're just got another.
Quote here is this kind of -- distinct from our reporter rich had to do is fed this or one of the sources that congressman Paul Ryan.
And I'd just be curious to see what the reaction the president -- to this that congressman Paul Ryan get up the meeting it said quote.
Leaders have to lead and you haven't shown leadership.
Was that back and forth between the congress.
The president what was that like that it happened.
You know I think congressman Ryan did a great job of outlining to the president the differences between the president's rhetoric.
And the way he's trying to couch.
The Ryan budget plan right and the realities I'm not sure the president took -- great strides.
And certainly.
Paul Ryan was saying to the president look.
If you continue to give speeches around the country talking about Republicans want to push -- off the cliff.
You're it's going to be hard to come to any agreements right -- a -- what Paul Ryan bill what do think president said it when he when he said that when he challenged him on his leadership what are the president's thing.
Well I think the president the president's that it takes both sides and Brad I think he's right tried to -- a little bit now I want to go back to the comment you made.
Because it struck you and you brought it up to us when I asked today what went on -- there.
The the low taxes quote unquote experiment that the president used the word experiment when talking about taxes being -- what was the context of that.
If he was in the middle of a -- if you -- he was yeah explaining his position on something.
And basically he said that that we've experimented now with low taxes as though that isn't working.
-- yet we have we see some of the highest rates.
We've seen a long time and there seems to be a disconnect again I think -- the people who are watching what it goes to is.
Do you believe that government deserve the money and should have more money or does that money belonged to the individual I think the president believes that its government's money.
Otherwise he wouldn't have called low taxes.
An experiment right -- come out and you didn't get the kind of an explicit suggestion for the president that he was planning on raising taxes you're trying to read between in -- that the lines here and say that.
Almost -- -- you what's got the impression that he's done with the slower will with lower tax rates and that's what -- -- reading into it.
My my read is is that he thinks that experiment of low taxes didn't work right therefore he wants to raise taxes -- -- congressman.
The speaker of the house John Boehner with congressman -- recanted the house majority leader to his right there is there.
Leading the meeting right there what was the that the -- -- was there much of one between speaker Boehner in the president congressman -- Well I would say that the speaker did a great job he stayed strong.
He conveyed our conference's position that way we look at that let me let me stop you for a second -- -- because it looks like speaker Boehner is speaking right now -- break to that and listen and.
