IMAX ticker symbol IM -- just hit an all time high about ten days ago the stock is up more than a 103%.
Over the past year and you know what that means.
If you bought shares of this company last summer.
You would have made some serious cash but too big blockbusters like pirates of the Caribbean on stranger tides which debuted this weekend at number one of the box office battle.
Do they equal big money for IMAX what is the long tail here joining us now in this Fox Business it's what.
Richfield -- the CEO.
Of IMAX first off I went I sought how how to do.
I think on the it was a really good weekend as a matter fact there's a record global box office for us we -- about sixteen and a half million dollars around the world which beat -- -- record.
-- -- a million dollars -- movie little -- record Harry Potter the last one but what was really interest thing about it was half of the business came from international.
And half came from domestic even though we had much more screens domestically that we had internationally.
And that's never happened before and that's kind of abuzz all over is why -- this film do so well internationally and really he'll lead the vote that way.
OK so lets -- make this clear because this is news.
You did better internationally.
Than domestically -- another win more screens there.
To what do what -- -- that.
This is the fourth and an installment it's not like a shocking movie that nobody's you know ever heard the plot of a few things I think -- -- -- Johnny Depp is huge internationally.
Places like Japan France they love Johnny Depp.
Penelope Cruz I think -- Spain the Russian box office in general.
Was sick good it was really phenomenal so I think you have this infrastructure building internationally.
You -- the right moving in the right place and I think 3-D is really big internationally to.
And I think that helped them okay that dovetails to my next question Nicky -- of deadline Hollywood I think that's a website that I personally coming from LA Reid because she has all the dirt on everything going on in Hollywood.
She said yes it oh yes she she said internationally was huge but that domestically she called it.
Yo -- hot and mostly because she added Disney executive telling her that three he has turned soft in the US and -- -- -- it.
Well before I answer that was it's hard to call ninety million dollars in the -- home and you know it's still pretty good box office weekend you pretty satisfied -- at IMAX.
We don't think it's about the dimension we think it's about the story.
So I don't think 3-D changes a story better or worse one way or the other the question it is at the right story in 3-D or not.
And I think what we look at movies we re so we're doing super eight next which is -- -- JJ Abrams and produced by Steven Spielberg.
You know we we just -- and another TV film on spacing out at the moment.
But when Harry Potter was out his he would that we -- I started -- -- back position so I think it's too early to make a trend one thing about the Hollywood watchers.
After one week -- it's always a trend.
I don't wanna draw a trend out of it acting but that -- -- that it is that -- we do that -- -- -- -- I don't I don't wanna make a -- out of it but I do wanna say.
That I've always believed that three he doesn't change movies from good to bad at all things being equal to -- three.
I'd rather show it to.
Pocket we've got a bunch of them coming out some Mission Impossible is one that's coming out of interest shot partly -- IMAX cameras by the way right now the IMAX cameras will that punch up.
Mission Impossible argue expecting that to be even bigger because of that.
And premature.
On a relative basis I do I met with Brad Bird who's the director JJ Abrams is the producer.
They're blown away by what they've seen and during the Dark Knight which Chris Nolan shot -- IMAX cameras.
It really did boost the -- and then I'm also -- -- Jim Cameron coming out with his own cameras or is that in conjunction someone with you will he use them for avatars own cameras.
But what people don't realize about IMAX is the directors are -- our offices working.
It's a two weeks before avatar came out Jim was tinkering with the movie for the IMAX version.
We show a different version of the movie than the regular -- even -- was -- cameras he still did some special things for IMAX -- guitar part to.
We know -- in the works obviously Rupert Murdoch told us that here on Fox Business but.
Do you plan have for something like that because as it comes to scheduling these things for example I know that you've got.
Transformers coming -- July 1 but just one week earlier cars to June 24 -- -- that you leave money on the table with transformers have some of those screens are stuck with cars -- that's a little bit of a unique situation because what apple was Michael Bay was originally gonna release that.
In 2012.
And moved it back to 2011 so got a little bit crowded.
But avatar which you talked about that's -- 2013.
Then the next one.
2014.
We've already been speaking to Jim about it we spoke to some of the fox people about it so we have a movie that big you clear away the runway Harry Potter.
We have like a six or seven week played -- it's unfortunate when they crowd up.
So as we finish up their rich guys for sale ever ever ever ever -- -- gonna bio well thank god they didn't buy ask is that stock is higher now -- -- rumored price.
Just four months ago no it's not for sale -- IMAX not for sale says rich -- thank you very much for joining us exclusively here on fox business and congratulations on a great weekend we'll thank you and got to go see the next one I know built an IMAX theatre in Atwater futures up.
