You're here before Fox News broke the story just three weeks ago.
That border agents had been instructed from the highest levels to avoid arresting illegal immigrants a story that Homeland Security has.
Denied so the president has resurrected.
The immigration debate but is he simply pandering for votes or is -- trying to fix a system that's been broken now four years.
My first guest tonight the co author of the country's strict this at the state global anti illegal immigration law.
Drafted in Arizona back in 2007.
Chris Kolb back -- now the secretary of state -- state of Kansas is the senior counsel at the immigration law reform institute and joins us live tonight.
From Kansas City great to have you -- -- Did you guys and I should say mr.
secretary good to have you -- it.
What is starting goalie Chris -- and I wanted to honor I've even had the opportunity if they congratulations over this time and I thank you and I would like to do that.
The president do you sense that this is the beginning of a major initiative or is this.
Another stage of what some might call pandering.
I think it's got to be the latter I mean it tell you you saw -- -- that -- he was making it sound like he was on another planet.
I mean talking about first of all arguing that amnesty is sort of a realistic potential in this congress.
But even more his statements about the state of the border we have we have we aired it in a position right now where.
We are seeing untold levels of violence unprecedented levels.
This administration has pretty much given up on work site enforcement all are doing now is is doing audits and fining players aren't making arrests anymore.
At work sites and they're actually turning loose illegal aliens who are already in deportation proceedings the Houston sectors the best example -- has -- this about 171000.
Illegal -- thing or not -- shouldn't deporting anymore.
So him to claim that it's all been you know law and order and getting tough at the border for the first two years of this of this administration and it's just ludicrous.
Well the president certainly did wave a wand over the over the border and declare it all but declared to be secured not -- -- it's all about secure.
What -- it to what effect though is this effort on the part of the president.
He's his approval rating among some Hispanic Americans -- down to 54%.
This -- -- going to bolster his standing amongst Hispanic Americans through many of home.
Have to be offended that this stereo typing by you this White House that.
Hispanic American equals pro illegal immigration.
That's a great point -- you know if you if you look at the studies closely if you if you take a specific question.
For example an Arizona they've had a number of popular initiatives on illegal immigration like prop 200 which cut off benefits to illegal aliens.
Hispanic US citizens.
Typically vote in very large numbers -- either about half and half for or against or sometimes even a majority.
Votes in favor so the notion that US citizens of Hispanic ethnicity.
All want to waive our immigration laws and just let let illegal aliens in and give them amnesty is not true.
And and politically they're Republican Party has -- As great burdens.
But certainly the the intelligence of its leadership would.
Not simply -- to the Democratic Party and exclusive.
If you will demand for the from the votes.
Of the Hispanic American citizen.
Citizenry in this country.
We know that many of these people -- going to beat these illegal immigrants will one day be here on a legal basis whether.
In some interim stage or -- as full citizens.
The Republican Party is going to contest are they not for their -- Well I think so and you know I think.
Many in the Republican Party in congress are realizing.
That this you know that that are voters are Smart and they realize you can go below the surface and say hey wait a minute there's not just amnesty pro amnesty or anti amnesty.
Millions of Americans are out of work you know unemployment levels are around 10%.
And the last time you want amnesty the absolute worst time for an amnesty is when millions of Americans are trying to put food on the table.
And the ones who are having the hardest time competing against illegal labor typically are recently naturalized US citizens or the legal aliens who are here.
And that's it confirmed -- course by the Pew Research Center.
And again there are analysis of some two million jobs vs illegal immigrant labor.
Putting pressure both on -- as well as for when those jobs themselves.
What do you expect the next step to be Chris.
On the -- you know.
I'm guessing the administration is probably gonna have the president speak a couple more times they've already put out.
A big white paper explaining the details what's really aren't all that detailed -- basically it's a massive amnesty thought he wants the DREAM Act.
He wants a a comprehensive amnesty for the entire eleven million.
Or so illegal aliens in the country.
And then he has window dressing just talking about border security as if that's already accomplished now.
So yeah I he I think he knows the White House knows that they're not gonna get this through the congress and they're probably just doing it as a dog and pony show for.
Certain constituencies or person going to and invite sure if you -- to come back here we're going to be talk about solutions to this issue.
-- -- -- are going to make declarations were going to actually try to have a national dialogue on the subject of border security.
Illegal immigration and what must be done through.
To create a rational effective and humane immigration system and actually solve the problems.
That some people are simply trying to game.
I'm all from all quarters of the debate is you know.
Chris go back -- hope you'll come back here soon we've been talking with congressman Luis Gutierrez.
Better occurred in -- -- tonight.
-- -- -- going to continue what Lamar Smith the head of the house judiciary joins us here tomorrow we hope you'll come back in the days ahead.
Clearly my -- that.
