But for those who have followed these sour Palin endorsed Tea Party GOP candidate Marco Rubio from the get go -- -- fascinating.
To see how he's risen and then how far he has fallen in the polls for the poll watchers the reasons.
Are plain to see -- reveal it stuck to his conservative principles in the senate race the poll leader the Florida governor Charlie Crist is.
Well -- pragmatist you might say -- to split endorsement from organized labor he's criticized Arizona's.
Immigration law and most important of all probably he has called for tough legislation.
How does -- Tea Party candidate like rubio managed to win against a -- political player like -- we hear now from the candidate himself.
Marco Rubio thank you sir for coming out.
We really do appreciate it a day no all right some had said that the oil spill as it's played out politically it's been what saved.
Charlie Crist to this point how do you respond.
From the I -- he's got in the polls.
Of course I haven't seen that bump I don't think that's true but second of all mean the numbers are no different than they were back in April secondly if it's true one of his supporters was quoted as saying that the oil spill.
Was a -- and then I think his campaign that's unfortunate because it's been a disaster in Florida for our country.
The truth -- our federal governments and a terrible job of responding to it now we just haven't gotten leadership here in Florida that they've gotten in Louisiana and Mississippi from their government.
From a -- policy standpoint though -- even actually first from a political standpoint you talk about not seeing the leadership.
The governor's been seen on television what have you -- next the president or just making appearances.
A lot of political experts look at that say -- listen politics is a game of optics and this helps him.
You're not seeing the same way -- -- the governor -- is that it's coming uphill climb that way now.
No I don't feel -- into the bottom line he's been seen walking the beach with the president of the United States whose administration has done a terrible job of dealing with -- -- I mean this is.
At 71 days after the accident they finally waive the rules that are gonna allow some more scammer succumbing to the Gulf of Mexico there.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Offshore drilling know what about the -- he wants to be certainly more cautious and many -- called for.
And the president that supported the moratorium on offshore drilling you're taking just the opposite approach right to -- don't you think that's gonna hurt you politically in this race.
Well first of offshore drilling authority banned on Florida's waters and what he's talking about is doing a special session to put in the constitution with the law already makes illegal and that is drilling off Florida waters.
In terms of offshore drilling look I'm all for energy diversity I've been talking about it for years and I was the speaker of the Florida house we publish the book.
They called for new technologies I think America should be a leader in electric cars -- and fuel cell technology -- But that's gonna take some time to develop and Indian term where are we gonna get our energy for transportation basically that's based on oil we have two choices we can produce more of it ourselves right which I'm for domestic production or we can -- buy more of it from overseas sources that are increasingly unstable.
And unfriendly to our country.
Dissidents you you you would take that option over -- over the over the alternative let me ask about immigration here for a moment because you support or come out in support of the Arizona.
Immigration law at first I -- you thought it went too far and then some changes were made.
Now you supported.
How is that going to play for you and will changing your position bomb -- -- in the race do you think.
Well I haven't changed my position the law changed and I can tell you two things about a number one there is no more pro illegal immigration candidate in America than me my parents are immigrants my grandparents were immigrants my wife's parents -- -- better.
Grown up in a community of immigrants but America can I think immigration is a good thing for America if it's done legally and threw an orderly process.
But America can't be the only country in the world that does not enforce its immigration laws and so what I'm -- border security I'm for enforcing the law.
And once you begin to do that and the American people up confidence that the federal government is once again effectively dealing with the issue of illegal immigration.
Then we can move on to modernizing our legal immigration system not to provide amnesty but to provide a more streamlined modernized version that allow.
Employers to be able to verify the employment status of their employees start.
Finally on this question of whether or not a a Tea Party candidate a true conservative candidate who as you have -- we said the beginning.
Has stuck to his principles can win in this kind of -- race and in the polls that you should units that you didn't see the bumper governor Chris but.
-- -- the polls we're looking at at least show that at one point you were up single digits 78 points whatever it may -- -- and now it appears as if he's up.
By a few points so there has been some sort of a shift in at least some.
Of the polls what's happening in the right -- -- and maybe Florida is just not as conservative as you think is that possible.
Well now two things number one it's a different election I think some of the polls based on a primary are different than the general election they're gonna have been -- I was 35 points that when I got in this race.
A year ago in the Republican primary against Charlie Crist.
The second thing I would tell you that the things that I believe and our majority positions I believe that our debt is dangerous that it's gonna bankrupt our country and that we need to stop growing it and figure out a way to shrink it sort of the majority of Americans.
I believe the private sector creates jobs and federal tax policies and spending policy -- that are discouraging job creation right -- sort of the majority of Floridians.
And I believe the world is a safer place when -- the strongest country in the world.
So -- the majority of Floridians.
You people product conservatism that's -- -- abrasive but that's a majority position in our country and I.
Exactly what you're what you're saying or the point you're making there at the end and with two of those three positions -- the conversation goes back to the economy.
Sounds like you think.
You win Marco Rubio thank you very much for coming on really appreciate it thank you.
On -- close.
