-- the same thing seems to be you know heading down a track it's got momentum this locomotive.
There should be no stopping it that there's a segment of our culture.
That is now like a spoiled kid on the cereal while throwing a fit that says gimme gimme gimme gimme.
And they think their mommy is lives in Washington.
And they think that that somehow.
You know -- that Washington is going to be able to deliver the goods.
To them so -- with that momentum and and that's there's a tremendous political capital behind them as well -- the thing seems to be it if you're shooting some of this legislation just blowing through there.
At a disturbing rate as some of us are sitting back here going wow I never dreamed I really never dreamed in ninety days.
That we would see this company is there a way to put the brakes on it is -- you guys don't have you don't have a vote to get a stop it now.
No we don't -- and you're right and saving freedom use a statistic that 52% of Americans.
Get their income directly or indirectly from the government source -- me it's going to be hard.
To stop that train and I really do think we're on a cliff right now and it's.
-- me to say rash things like we've got to stop the president on health care or he's gonna blow through with.
Cap and trade electricity tax and other things and he has on his agenda.
Like him personally.
And I would like to be able to supporting but if we lose this health care battle -- I'm afraid we're gonna have so many Americans dependent on the government that will never get them to vote for less government -- This is a make or break -- from four Americans and I think it's all gonna depend on.
Whether your listeners your viewers.
Actually contact their congressmen and senators or maybe actually go out -- hold a sign of their own offices and say get your hand off my health care.
So in the book saving freedom.
-- you know if you outlined some things so what is the plan to really -- -- on this kind of kind of -- general very.
Overarching terms are realists say freedom -- what what what should people outside of DC do.
And why should they believe you that they can do that actually it is really in their hands and the last two chapters of saving freedom is is an action plan it tells people what they can do -- actually.
Starts with the story and it's a wonderful life if you remember the Jimmy Stewart movie.
Where he was reminded by an Angel what a difference he had made as an individual that he didn't know about.
And all of our lives are that way and freedom begins with the individual if if we.
Take responsibility for ourselves and our own families and volunteer in the community and our churches we're helping to say freedom without ever being involved with politics.
But people want to know what they can do to pull more pressure on there.
Elected officials I give them a lot of examples of what makes a difference here in Washington.
And frankly I don't have the votes here to stop things but I -- on some pretty big legislation in the last couple years.
If we can get millions of people to right to email to call.
And maybe even go out and demonstrated a little bit we can change some minds here and so that's -- saving freedom is about it's it's my cry for help.
To the American people to stand up and help us take back this country.
What in your mind happened last fall that was kind of the opposite of that.
Because we literally had people on all of the shows on fox and I was on a bunch of panels and people are screaming in panic -- and hysteria and everything else including the entire Bush Administration apparently.
And you know we had people riding Republican.
Senators and congressman.
And and Democrat Republican I mean that Democrats senators and congressman and they were coming on television all our shows and saying.
We have nine -- -- 1982%.
Of the people in America against this and yet I'm going to vote for it anyway people of both parties did that what how.
Happen to -- you know large segment of your colleagues to completely unplug their brains well they really did and what we.
I was sitting in the meetings.
With secretary Paulson and and others would -- in the president's saying our economy was gonna collapse if we didn't passes.
This massive bailout TARP plan that they called it.
And I think a lot of people just said well yeah we don't understand this global economy these people -- -- -- gonna collapse.
But -- information was not correct and I'm afraid they suckered a lot of Republicans and the Democrats in the voting for him.
And and as soon as they got this past day if they didn't even do -- they said head to be done.
Which which was above all these toxic assets they never bought one of them.
And so clearly what they were -- -- -- was not true.
So I'm so frustrated and I have been critical of the Bush Administration Obama administration I didn't vote for I didn't vote for the stimulus.
I'm not going to vote for government take over health care.
Because it doesn't make sense we're going down a road.
That if it's been proven and so many countries in history and a guy I cover their history and saving freedom.
People have tried socialism before and you can call it collective ism or big government or liberal or whatever it socialism in my mind.
It doesn't work it destroys people.
Takes away our creativity our our motivation our innovation.
In the country ends up in so much debt.
That our prosperity disappears.
So we've we've got to stop this and we're close to the cliff.
-- Washington think is out of control and that's why I've said we've got to stop that we've got to read legislation we've got to get the American people engaged.
Hopefully -- -- your viewers and listeners -- will help us do that.
How how long have you been in Washington.
I close my business someone -- 47 years old a little over ten years ago and I came in the House of Representatives.
A term limited myself to -- six years.
And I was either gonna go home a run for something else I decided.
To come over and try to change the senate so far -- haven't been very successful.
So I've been here roll over ten years.
Okay total between the 2000 yeah -- So what is your opinion of term limits because there's a bunch others are frustrated that things that ever so often the place -- would -- -- cleaned out I still -- them the am I still believe the term limits would be the best reform that we could have.
For congress and senate.
Because -- I don't see anyone who's been over here over ten or twelve years it's still fighting.
For those basic things we came for.
It's always government century the longer you're here the more you see every solution has to have excuse me every problem has to have a government solution.
I still support term limits the limit myself in the house and I'm gonna limited in the senate.
And for the record I had no idea what you're truly going to be that's not -- one of the question here people -- I was curious for our viewers at home that that was.
Straight up stuff and I appreciate senator let me throw a couple of of those Bulger -- and that.
So I love the quote from your -- government intrusion into the free market has undermined personal responsibility reduced incentives to work and save.
And insulated people and businesses from the consequences.
Of bad decisions.
Elaborate on that for just a second.
Well -- risk and reward or are key part of freedom success and failure is a key part of freedom most new businesses.
Don't make it.
But that has made America much stronger as we -- of -- out those who don't make it and some who don't make it the first time like Walt Disney.
After the third or fourth time.
He does make it.
And in this ability to fail is key to our ability to succeed him when the government starts to take all the risk out of our society.
In tries tries to cover our failure in -- bails us out.
It actually kills the success but and it's -- a hard thing for people understand who haven't been in business.
The risk and reward is what freedom is all about making our own choices and living with the consequences.
Is what freedom is all about and the government is trying to insulate us from that and it's just not working.
Well running towards success and away from failure will drive you to excellence and nothing else does that's a great quote there.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Well senator we really appreciate -- being with -- were -- had -- today and are -- surviving the first politician on the -- your show congratulations and thank you and thanks for what you do every day it's really important -- financial literacy is something that's woefully lacking it's a part of being free.
So thank you.
Well thank you thanks for having us the book our thanks for coming on the show whether the book is a saving of freedom --
