Right now he's -- president does server and tools business at Microsoft -- Bob welcome to the show.
Thank you it's great to be here right now the Bobby all about cloud computing and -- I've done this a couple times on the show I'm gonna do it again with you.
Just explain to folks the nuts and bolts of cloud computing so we haven't -- understanding of the concept first.
Sure I'm glad to do that you -- the real key to the cloud.
Is how -- can simplify things for business.
If you look at what it takes to build a business application today.
Companies have to deploy servers and worry about setting up data centers and air conditioning and everything like that and -- a whole -- management around building their applications.
With the cloud.
-- can effectively be delivered as a service to customers.
Allowing businesses to essentially get all the best practices of the industry and really focus on their business not focus on the infrastructure.
So I guess my question would be is that I'm watching -- home and I own a small business are part of one.
I would wanna know how this could affect -- -- -- I could use it.
What a great thing about the cloud for small business is it allows small businesses to get all the same benefits.
Of the most advanced aspects of information technology that they've never really been able to before because they couldn't afford to set up all right equipment themselves.
With the cloud the most sophisticated business applications that the best solution is possible can be delivered to any business anywhere around the world.
A Bob let me ask you this citadel farmland by at a small business or had a final large business that -- -- apartment or at least nineteen manager.
They can control the flow of information they can watch out -- -- viruses.
You would getting into the net -- Is there a concern out there and rightfully or wrongfully about.
-- -- that my date is going to be housed somewhere else not right here where I can control it.
Sure if there's no question there are some concerns and and and of course it's important to really be very conscious of that.
I think it's some level those concerns will be mitigated over time if you go back 1012 years people were really concerned about.
Given their credit cards out on the Internet of course now we see literally billions and billions of dollars -- e-commerce being -- But one of the key things again about the cloud.
Is that it allows some of the best practices of the industry to be applied it really large scale and and then all those benefits can -- everybody.
So who I mean competitors I mean at this offered by anybody else out there and you.
What we -- like.
-- -- -- in a really strong position because we come from a place where.
Of the industry standard servers in the world run -- one -- to service and we have a lot of experience running services and in the consumer space but we certainly competitors -- we think -- for sure.
Google is a competitor salesforce is a competitor.
Amazon is really -- partner and a competitor Amazon runs a lot of windows server but they compete with us in some ways to help.
No Bob this is the game changer in terms of some alliances that are out there isn't it because -- I don't with Cisco and HP and some other partnerships.
You've had a little bit of a split haven't you because this is so one -- And is such an opportunity here.
Yeah there really is a great opportunity and it has caught some splits in the industry.
Microsoft has always taken an approach of partnering very broadly and and this week we announced some really brought partnerships we.
We talked about working with HP and Dell and Fujitsu to take all the experience we have of running cloud services.
And enable that in the form of an appliance that large customers and service providers can run within their own environment and that's a case where.
Partnerships across the industry have really solidified with Microsoft.
We also talked about one really large customer that we're gonna start working with on this which is -- day.
-- -- is of course you know an industry in a household name and we look forward to working with them and work with all our other partners.
So we talked a lot about a lot of the ways that big businesses small business can use this but.
Can an individual benefit from sitting down -- using -- I mean.
Simple by -- mean how would I want -- I think.
When you see your email being delivered to you that's essentially a form of cloud computing for consumers have to run I don't think about running that you just have that as -- service delivered to you.
Certainly if you look at all of the mobile devices and all the information people -- working with.
The cloud is essentially delivering.
There -- information that I care about wherever I am whatever I'm doing it it gives me access to what's important to me and and that's a benefit that's a crew and everybody right now.
The product is zoo array which I like is it's that's Canadian for Italians would seem that soccer -- the site in Cleveland not the lineup -- IAA you've won me over.
A -- -- you'll find out about this bomb.
You know if people can buy got to go to but not a Microsoft dot com dot com slash after all that information is up there.
-- -- we've been working hard on when disaster when does -- really.
The world class cloud platform and -- something that we're very excited we're driving it forward as fast as we know how to deal and it.
It's gonna be a game changer as she -- we've got to go but -- what have money is that this cloud computing drive.
-- big money really mean if you look at all of the industry today that's providing services and local mall together in the cloud IDC says that that's about sixteen billion dollars right now.
And between that between 2009 and 2014 that's expected to grow to about 55 billion so.
-- dramatically -- any other part of -- so it's it's a great place to be focused.
I would just I'm sure especially at Microsoft right now looking for growth -- -- Thanks a lot glad to be here thanks very much at family of from -- Microsoft about cloud computing -- as ruler or the is Hillary if you're in.
