Morning -- -- football in most successful sports franchise in America may not have its offense ready ahead tonight kicked off a number of issues including labored -- Labor excuse me naming rights and -- season extension have yet to be resolved could result.
And a fumble for the league's bottom line overall Ashley Webster of life but new metal and stadium and he's gotten more and I actually what do you think the new stadium I was there last week and I have.
Have mixed emotions about it actually.
He had you know afraid care actually said it looks like a prison that was -- those kind of -- to -- battle on the outside.
Britney looks a lot better at night he -- -- call -- the Kentucky fried chicken stadium but.
Talking of which there are naming rights issues -- about the giants and the jets have been unable to find someone it's 25.
Million dollars a year to get to name on this stadium and so far there have been no takers.
Not only here but Dallas the Dallas Cowboys built a stadium of the cost a billion dollars -- suit cannot find.
Naming sponsors so these are hard times ticket sales for the NFL down.
One to 2% that's a third season in the road by the way that ticket sales have fallen.
And as you mentioned we have a a labor issue hanging over the league right now.
We have one season left with the current agreement in place has been no signal from either the legal the players' union that they want to sit down and hammer something out.
The league is putting out the idea of extending the season from sixteen games to eighteen games.
Well you know what some of these stadiums and some of these teams -- having hard time filling those states teams like the St.
Louis Rams -- Tampa Bay Bucs.
They are having a tough time getting people in especially in this economy.
But if that happens if they do want to extend the season again I have to have some sort of agreement with the union.
And there's been absolutely no sign of either side sitting down to the bargaining table so.
They're also big issues facing -- -- it generates ten billion dollars in revenue it is the richest -- -- in the country there's no doubt about it but they have some issues to address general.
You know one of Enron -- tuchman into this discussion nationally because you know -- Robin thank you for joining us by the way I wanted to ask you about.
Overall the issues you've got a down economy.
You've got it is actually is reporting here -- others there's labor troubles.
Do you think that the league overall rob is maybe in for kind of a surprise the share that's not going to be a good one financially.
You know what not for this season I really believe the NFL in terms of this -- here in America is the Premier League.
It was actually noted they're gonna make ten billion dollars where they're gonna actually generate ten billion dollars in revenue.
Fantasy football had thirty million participants you know yes season tickets and ticket sales have been down.
The last few years but right now there is no better lucky in the NFL in terms of generating money.
They are in trouble in 2011.
You know Ron I mean I U football fan editor at this hour so -- I.
I eat out more about their injuries that that does go to eighteen games they need the revenue.
And I I I these guys are beat up there's a 100% chance of being injured in the NFL.
-- 100% chance you play the game.
Stretching it out.
And that it would be be -- 24/7 years five day training.
Per year for them to do that and I think the injuries who have will be seen of I I don't know if they do it I.
Don't think after that the story is -- thing about the name right in particular meadowlands let me add for those that that are New Yorkers I mean this -- -- this thing has been years in the making it's -- monstrosity the jets but don't yeah.
Yeah sharing it.
And there's no name before you know they can't get corporate sponsorship this summer sank.
They just want to much money because of -- long term deal yeah but Citi Field.
The Mets -- city failed city signed up for that deal -- -- the delivery problems that may mean.
Management at the meadowlands music on a rethink their price just a thought.
Main failed other Fuld is -- give it away in a fire sale just hang on although.
This cost one point six billions of built the giants and jets both a low.
900 million a construction costs so.
You know you can't carry around that -- -- that long but you're right maybe they will be tempted to drop the price a little but a lot of money is that 45 million dollars -- -- by the way they have.
Sold for cornerstone.
Sponsorship she might fail to see one behind me Verizon they also -- want to Pepsi and Budweiser MetLife.
Those companies are paying eight million dollars a year to have their names prominently on the stadium but no -- stepped up to the -- -- Rose Bowl but -- to step up to us.
It but out that 25 million -- -- is abusing deceive anybody does.
Our Robin -- here's the thing I mean I would I would I was inside the new state of the new meadowlands stadium -- -- I found interesting is that advertisers.
Could actually change.
Because it's digital they can go and it constantly change.
You're you know what whoever is so it every game could be a different advertiser digitally could be every.
Ten minutes and almost was to think about the new trend we're gonna see -- football.
Oh yeah you're starting to see -- stadiums whether -- -- NFL football NBA basketball.
The digital signing it's offers these -- the ability to really bring in more sponsors and also not only to bring in more sponsors.
But the digital boards let that one sponsor for that 1520 seconds they -- the arena and talking about the naming rights look.
You just on that point.
The meadowlands has been going at this for three years even more in terms of bringing a sponsor -- breaking news is that JPMorgan Chase is actually going to put down thirty million dollars a year.
On Madison Square Garden so to say look Citi Field and that was done before this crisis.
Madison Square Garden is now going to get a thirty million dollars here.
From JPMorgan Chase so the guys at the meadowlands they should be able to sell this I'm not sure what's going -- You know I don't know when I'm not a big NFL sports follower out there I have been -- Jerry world led this season opener last year and the one thing I have to say OK bring down the pregnant naming rights start out with the big -- and the peanuts and the beer.
And the pretzels on the it was like sixteen dollars to get here at -- and Gerri well.
-- from the bottom -- help the little folks out first and then and then and then take down -- big prime -- and never about if we can take a cue from that from Arizona stadium because you know when -- came -- to work today this is when I was wearing a little -- this -- -- work this morning I tell you rob -- the cardinals but I just -- -- this season's shaping up right now it's not -- -- be a good one but I back to this -- in Canada.
Again above multimillion dollar stadium out and -- -- that stadium is -- has been doing very well with ticket sales.
Is there anything that you think that the meadowlands management could -- from Arizona.
-- well look Arizona that stadium they've done extremely well they've hosted a Super Bowl.
And obviously it's a growing market I think what the meadowlands needs to do you know they've had wasserman media group.
Trying to sell their sponsorship or naming rights sponsorship.
For the past few years they've done well is actually alluded to on the cornerstone partnerships.
But for me not to have a naming rights sponsor in this market in New York.
And then for JPMorgan Chase to come in here and sign a thirty million dollar deal at Madison Square Garden.
How does that happen I mean this is the NF LV Premier League you know generating ten billion in revenue you need -- -- you need -- name on that building.
Don't mess don't mess with them as Judy you know -- I don't know what that company Exxon had -- I I was -- Raymond James twenty years ago it and they bought the rights to Tampa Bay stadium.
And then of course -- they want a Super Bowl and I can't believe they didn't get I think -- -- quote -- thirteen million dollars way back then.
I can't believe -- -- get their money's worth and a I got and then everything is Raymond James Stadium range of god is that advertising was extraordinary.
I don't call it pac bell park in San Francisco and that's how bad and he -- -- area.
All right as Webster Robert tuchman premiere global sports executive VP thanks a boat and you gentlemen.
