-- hours ago President Obama said.
He is open to solutions on health care that came from four Republicans including one from our next guest.
Joining us now in the first on Fox Business interview from Capitol Hill Republican senator John Barrasso of Wyoming senator -- also.
Is also a medical doctor he was an orthopedic surgeon for 24 years welcome senator thank you so much for joining us on fox thank you thank you as well when he hears it took president Obama's saying that you know what I got some good ideas from the GOP what goes through your mind right now is there a possibility that we might see some type of plan emerge.
-- -- -- a couple of new ornaments on to a bill that is otherwise fundamentally.
Flawed and this is bill is one that cuts.
Medicare by 500 billion dollars and it raises taxes by 500 billion dollars of causes people who have insurance for their rates to go up.
I was encouraged that the one idea of -- that he suggested was one that actually goes more patient.
Focus which is what we need patient centered health care.
But does so much of this bill is not patient centered -- government Saturday and I think that's the wrong approach to the American people have spoken.
Loudly that they oppose this bill -- Okay but let's just say that we do have some meeting of the mind not a couple of issues and and and you've talked about how you feel that we definitely need tort reform and there.
And we need to be able to cross state lines with the insurance that we already have that would certainly make the picture I think the landscape much more competitive.
Why is it that we don't see those in the bill.
Well because the president has intentionally let those out I think -- -- those points that you mentioned -- are important buying across state lines dealing with lawsuit abuse.
If we could go to areas where we agree and pass everything that we agree that we would get Health Care Reform -- we can do it a step by step fashion.
Letting people buy across state lines -- -- twelve million more people.
To have good to have insurance if you deal with this whole lawsuit abuse doctors will order fewer expensive tests that basically go to treat the doctor rather than the patient.
But they add to the cost of care and defensive medicine and I think people to buy individual accident insurance but -- get the same tax write off as the big company -- You know it appears either way that the administration may very well use this reconciliation.
Meaning passage of -- will only require simple 51 votes minus the Republicans.
As pretty much the strategy to push health care through.
Republicans are pretty upset by this yet they've used it before namely to pass the Children's Health Insurance Program.
-- law which allows workers to keep benefits after they leave a job.
Why not for this one.
Well this is a partisan power grab -- And I will tell you sometimes when it's been used there's been great bipartisan support some of the biggest laws have been passed.
Using that that 707275.
We're talking about trying to cram down the throats of the American people bill into -- law that the American people do not want.
25% of the Americans say just stop right now another 50% say stop and start over only one in four Americans in a recent poll said.
Yet we ought to pass that -- to use.
This partisan power grab to shut down the throats of the American people something that they are saying do not put our way I think is just wrong.
I I'd be remiss if I didn't ask you certainly about the fact that you're -- doctor what's the number one thing doctors want in this bill and what's the main thing they want to.
Well and I've spent that time yesterday in Wyoming at the hospital -- -- the largest -- of -- -- medical center talking with doctors of course.
They always are -- concerned about tort reform they see immediately.
A lawsuit abuse affects them individually in the expert.
Cost for patients because of the tests that they order.
That they also want to see a patient centered approach something to put patients in charge not a government bureaucrat or insurance bureaucrat.
They don't want anyone standing between.
The doctor and the patient and that's when I wish had -- more of it have been at.
Let me just say this though they don't like the Medicare reimbursements that they're getting it's a little insulting for doctors when they're not getting reimbursed properly or on time but it's not just Medicare it's insurance companies.
-- my OB GY Hanssen was why am I waiting six months to get paid for a baby I delivered half the year ago.
For doctors it just seems like they're treading water and then of course your compatriot senator Jim Bunning.
Is of course is standing in the way of legislation at the moment that in part.
Course he she is saying he wants to stop the crazy spending in Washington nothing wrong with that but that in part.
Will hold up reimbursements to doctors for Medicare payments what do you have to say about senator Jim Bunning suffered.
Well we have we need to solve these -- -- -- as part of it was the president wants to put fifteen million more Americans on Medicaid that's what he says is going to be their coverage.
-- doesn't care because half the doctors in the country won't see patients on.
Reimbursement -- -- the Mayo Clinic won't see them they're having more and more problems around the country getting those people -- So coverage does not necessarily equal care and I think that the health care bill falls way short of addressing the needs of the American people.
Get closer together thank you so much I -- there to about what was -- the -- -- senator John brought vividly you.
Also a medical doctor to those -- the people have a copy of my dad with the doctor -- lot of your from the doctors because they're the ones who were sick.
