NBC network affiliate there and did channel five in Memphis and I asked the general manager who I didn't even know more -- I said would you like for me to bring.
Wrestling to your TV station.
Thank the good lord -- you said yes at that point I started a business from scratch I hired wrestlers I heard production.
Some people I had a TV crew.
-- I -- you know I made a budget I met -- payroll I dealt with individuals and their families and for twenty years I ran one of the most successful wrestling entertainment companies in the United States and in 1997.
I sold that business for over two million dollars so how does that relate to be mayor of Memphis can you can you sell Memphis in the same way you -- your business.
Well you know that I'm glad you mentioned it like that -- that's one of the things I wanna do when you say sell Memphis.
I wanna I wanna make Memphis.
Like a wrestling superstar -- the Memphis has never been promoted.
Not only nationally but internationally -- never been marketed properly I wanna take the opportunity that I did in the wrestling entertainment business.
Take something from nothing and make it into something great and Memphis is that has that capability someone a market Memphis -- Memphis to the world.
And and and bring in bring in more tourism dollars and and create more economic development and and that's what this -- -- needs my campaign is about.
Running the city government like a business you know when I ran my wrestling company I the first order of business I found that was you can't spend more money than to take him.
Our city leaders here in the city of Memphis if they've been running a real business they would have been fired long long sounds like members of garlic -- Gerri what my campaign.
Sounds like Atlanta wherever you're right and I've -- -- and about local and talk about here in Memphis yeah.
By the way Memphis is a fantastic place I love going to Memphis I was just there -- few months ago.
And and it did surprise me that there weren't more -- there I didn't see a lot of tourism there and it has such rich possibility of course you got the -- estate which is is a mainstay but you also have places like stacks records and you have.
You have a lot of different places that you could take opportunities to that Memphis so far really hasn't exploited as they could.
Well that's actually absolutely right David I mean we.
And Memphis has probably the one of the most the richest of musical histories and heritage is of any city in the United States.
-- Cleveland Ohio has the rock and roll hall of fame when in reality Elvis Presley Johnny Cash Jerry Lee Lewis -- Roy Orbison Carl Perkins all of these guys got their start in Memphis -- Nashville is known as music city USA.
I mean we have people like you we have Al Green we had Isaac Hayes we had Rufus Thomas and and then not to mention the blues I -- Beale street as the home of the blues.
There's no city in America that has a more rich musical heritage than Memphis Tennessee was.
It's not it's not have to worry atmospheric you do not market Madison city itself as wonderful character I have to ask you Gerri we're really tight on time.
