-- Well does this sound familiar -- plan to spend a certain amount of money on something that.
Then come all the add -- and suddenly the price tags or wave beyond your budget you know you -- -- -- -- -- -- the -- XM satellite -- the video -- -- back.
Well it does sound a lot like health care in Washington -- Dave Ramsey knows a little bit about and how to fix and he joins us now from his radio show in Nashville -- to -- -- Dave.
Good to see you guys hi our -- -- great I just bought a kayak and I found out that that was a small price compared to all the paddles.
-- the life preservers all of the gloves in the special shirts and the boots.
Those things are about three times -- cause of the -- itself so I see Richard target of the saying I got a whole new picture you David that it.
-- -- David kayaking down on the cape but you know he's writing what you thought -- one thing gets a bunch of earrings and necklaces and bracelets out of -- onto it.
Well and it is like these government programs as well we're just now reading that cash for clunkers.
It is starting to it's not having the -- in fact as an example the unintended consequence of Washington stupidity in something they sold themselves on.
And then turned around and sold to the American public an example on this was while the gas mileage of the average car in that program went up from sixteen miles per gallon -- 2.4 miles per gallon.
The average person's driving they're nicer car more and are going this -- 61 gallons more next year.
And so were burning more fuel as a result of the -- in fuel efficient cash for clunkers program.
And that's like this ridiculous -- statement the congressman just made a minute ago.
As a person of faith I gotta tell -- -- -- listen to you at the break.
And my break watching your interview and I was offended by him quoting scripture and saying that Jesus -- -- -- that we needed to take care of the sick.
And Jesus did say that but he never once said and nowhere in the Bible one time doesn't have the government.
Taxing people to take care of the sick.
That is that that is.
Well and when it whenever you have people using -- -- somebody from the Bible in order to sell political program you're you're distorting your religion terribly anyways I think it's best if we leave religion out of -- But what about health care -- -- even though they're always unintended consequences or there are some things that need to be fixed what needs to be fixed and.
Well I I can't tell -- expert on health care I work with individual people every day and many of them have gotten hammered -- health insurance situations.
But I will tell you the truth is is that -- a large number of people who got serious medical debt.
Was simply because they did not buy health insurance that was available to them.
No it wasn't that they couldn't afford it.
Not to buy insurance it's like driving your freaking car around without insurance on your car and and whining when you total it.
I'm glad you brought up the car analogy because you.
Have to have insurance in this country to to drive the car some people don't and then of course -- in major trouble so.
Why not at least put that model to work with health care Dave where people actually have to pay for that health insurance.
-- -- you could force it on people but I'm not against for you know I just think -- if you try to make everything illegal to be stupid we're gonna have the jails full.
I mean it's just there's no way you can figure out enough way to make people do what they're supposed to do there's natural consequences of doing dumb things I've had -- happen to me.
I've done dumb things I read the stupidity -- reap the results the desperation that comes out of that and I'll learn from it -- -- change my ways.
But you know -- I think we're just trying to create this situation where the government creates a place where you can't fail.
And failure has to be one of the options we cannot regulate away the possibility of you falling over.
The bottom line of individual responsibility though is that when people are in control of their bills they make sure that they're not getting ripped off and right now it's insurance companies Medicaid or Medicare that are in control of the bills.
Is that one thing that we have to address.
Well absolutely the Bush Administration probably put one of the most put forth one most brilliant things to solve the health care crisis.
If they would expand that they would there's all kinds of studies done in the health -- world that says what's called first dollar.
Is very very important -- the first dollar come from.
That's gonna pay the bill and that's who pays attention to what it costs and end and so the bus came forth the HSH the health savings account wooden barge deductible.
Where the consumers paying the -- first 45000 bucks and it's a 100% coverage after that on the insurance the premiums or 30% cheaper.
The traditional PPOs and people are buying -- everywhere and they're willing to take the risk for the first 45 grand out of pocket.
That's not what breaks you it's that 250000 dollar quadruple bypass that'll -- yeah it's -- Dave Ramsey interrupting his radio show to join us thank you very much we appreciate it thanks Dave and don't remember.
