Do you ever wonder whether -- is too short the market.
What is his purpose which sports and lost homes lost jobs lost lots of votes just -- Who Saturday helped with the purpose of life than the man whose purpose driven life drove millions to change -- -- I'm talking of course about pastor part one.
-- and it's comfortable counseling politician as he is praying at their boundaries.
Neither left nor -- on the founded senior pastor of Saddleback Church telling me that god does have a purpose of this.
God whispers to us and our pleasure but he shouts to us on our pain pain is God's megaphone and there's no doubt about it if you know anything about American history or biblical history for that matter.
-- recessions are often the key to spiritual revival.
You know -- when economies go down three things actually go up church attendance goes up.
Bar attendance goes up and movie attendance goes up it.
Again and the reason why those -- historically whether it's the Great Depression or any of the other recessions we've been through in our lifetime.
People are looking for three things when -- disappointed in materialism one they're looking for meaning so -- start going back church.
Secondly start looking for -- connection we always want to be connected to other people for the go to a bar.
And then third they look at for relief.
And by those are all three legitimate issues that I think churches and everybody else needs to be concerned with.
Bakery products to have for me but I could be in a different set -- -- let me ask you -- any non.
There are a lot of people very angry right now it's palpable he's seen it in riots in Europe while the the global leaders were meeting some of them might have been staged but not -- them.
And and there is this growing chasm that's developing between the rich and the not so it's.
And they don't like the rich and the rich are afraid.
Of the fact that the rich.
We make of that.
Well -- -- you know I think there's a lot of guilt being carried around right now and there's a lot of shame being carried around -- -- -- totally unnecessary I do believe.
You know when we've when we build a house of cards -- eventually gonna fall down and we've talked about this before that sometimes people are.
You know making money both -- you know Ponzi schemes and things like that -- that they have a right to be angry at that they've lost.
Millions of dollars -- something that they put their trust in two.
But the anger has to be channeled in a positive way otherwise it just more destructive what we have to do.
Is we have to do three things first we've got to realize you've got to work together.
Of the blame me really doesn't do a whole lot of good -- I I -- every time you you blame somebody you're you spell blame be lame.
And you're being language that would you blame other people take it you've got to stop fixing the blame -- start fixing the pro.
I would never want the details like -- victim now reverend and I got what they don't ever let up at.
Look it was unscrupulous lenders that got me into this mortgage I shouldn't have been in.
It was nefarious bankers who jacked up these credit card interest rates and -- deep in -- hall.
And everyone else has led to my problems.
What what had -- let's look at how do you counsel.
Is it simply not true.
-- that we have all everybody -- to take responsibility for their part of the the disaster and the truth is.
We have been living beyond our means for years.
And Americans lost the ability to do.
Which is one of the hallmarks.
Of American culture this country was built bomb threat.
You know on Ben Franklin and biblical.
Principles that said in penny saved is a penny earned -- a hard day's work and and you know we -- we make a -- fashioned way we earn it.
And -- all of sudden people and investing things that they don't understand that but the Bible.
It is in the book of proverbs it's literally filled with advice for how not to waste your money we we've actually been doing since January.
A large business and -- money management seminars at Saddleback Church because so many people have.
Either lost their jobs -- upside down on -- mortgage.
But I I can't blame god for the fact that I chose to buy a house that I couldn't afford -- I was presumptuous and you know -- mortgage bill typically invite things we we don't.
-- was yelling don't have said it took years to get us and that is behind me now where there are so I would assume by that that that -- -- over the years to get us out.
-- -- I absolutely think so and I think the problem with but with politicians as America has an incredibly.
Short attention span and patience -- And it's it's like when people come to see me -- what the pastor.
And they're married just fallen apart.
And I say well how long have you had this problem twenty years and they want me to solve and a lot of concessions.
You know it peeling the onion.
You didn't get -- we didn't get ourselves into this mess overnight we're not gonna get out of it overnight but we have to look -- on the good side first.
I would say look at what's left not what's lost that's an important thing in any area of life what's left.
And the truth is even in America -- all of our upside down loans and all of the people you know -- to unemployment.
Well let me just take -- -- places I spend most of my time like Darfur and Chad.
-- where you know you don't you have water much less roof over your head and he'll be a little bit more grateful.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- Delivered a connotation that the president's inaugural.
And you took a lot of heat for that you did a wonderful job by the way.
And on what was bitterly cold I got -- Let's go but.
Admit -- Barack Obama.
Is is telling that the nation and the world times have changed it would not that the grand Marshal of the world's anymore and we have to adjust to that.
And we have to have the shared sacrifice shared pain a lot of people -- behind added saying that he's.
He's kind of daring the United States prematurely.
Would make -- -- Well that -- what a leader says has to be balanced by how many credits he has in his pocket.
If you every time you as a leader you have a success people pay you.
Credits which you can put in your pocket and then later when you want to make a change you can use some of those credits -- get things done you know need to be done.
But if you have no credits in your pocket you have no credibility.
And people not follow your leadership in the people aren't following you.
You're not a leader I think he -- -- -- the death of being a leader and I have no I'm following him was only taking a walk effect and -- -- the truth is that these guys.
He hit it hasn't got enough credits in his pockets yet he's.
-- -- the job and he came then we have that's successful campaign.
But it takes far more than a reputation of a successful campaign and as a thoughtful leader.
And every every.
President makes mistakes and and we bring in people who they make mistakes and it makes us look bad.
That's a religious man reverend that the moves he's made on stem cell research and -- And addressing these latest -- is adorable probably add to those things trouble.
Course it does of course it troubles me and I've talked him personally about my.
This agreement would that what does he say I don't.
Well you know actually I challenged them of the last -- documents of what you're doing the sit -- and let me just take you through some scriptures and and give you another view on why people believe.
Like millions of people will believe you're wrong on this and he said he would -- in -- right now he's so -- he's got his head down.
I'm not talking to them and I've only talked to the the white -- -- couple times because we're busy doing things we're doing a I see right now is that that where -- -- recession there's no potential for spiritual revival and for instance.
Last week at Saddleback Church last Saturday.
We did our monthly membership class we've done it every month for thirty years and we usually have a hundred a 150 people join.
Well this what we get over 2400.
New members coming by and have to take a four hour class on a single day.
And then -- baptized.
800 new believers.
And a court we baptize but put people under the water.
That's a -- was at a swimming pool of our baptism pool for five straight hours they had webbed feet but the other at a that and I thought it up they have a bad guys that many people one time since the day of Pentecost the birthday at church where they added 3000.
And so what that says to me that there there's ups and downs you know the cover of Newsweek this week says the the death my -- and decline.
And that to me my reaction to that is what you know every year for 2000 years the denies -- demise of the faith has been predicted and we're we're still here.
Political things come and go.
Come and go.
Both styles come and go behind the church -- in -- -- the only thing that's gonna last.
We united Tennessee had -- on the cover of a major news magazine on go on long god.
And -- -- you have -- their pastor but I real pleasure having a good investment thank you very much.
