As he joins us now to talk about how the Olympics are helping build the brand of China -- welcome to the show.
Good morning -- How important is -- successful Olympic Games and in China for China's reputation as a good place to do business and of course invest.
China is betting on these games the same way that Japan.
And South Korea bet on the games to propel them -- the global stage.
-- eighty believe that this is very important to show the world that they -- able to play at a world class level.
-- -- resilient begun trying to clean up Beijing particularly the pollution issue.
How's that affecting some of the businesses in China what sort of -- -- people jumping through to -- present the sort of clean face in the rest of the world.
With wasting an awful lot of company shutting down an awful lot of people being put on.
A lot of temporary workers some of the the being sent back to the countryside.
This is having a major impact on the economic productivity.
Of the city and a negative way.
Which is sort of give -- say number two that have a price to this associated with this massive cleanup.
I have heard numbers that range from sixteen billion dollars to forty billion dollars.
And it's very hard to pin down what's the real number what we can say is -- a very big number.
When -- one of the China sponsors for the game two we always hear about the US sponsors -- sponsorship tied into its effort to establish a global brand.
Lenovo is a very good example of part of that.
Of the China -- trying to come on to the global state.
Lenovo is a computer manufacturer.
Most people probably know them because -- the company that acquired IBM.
Personal computer business -- the people that make -- now.
They're trying to -- supporting the Olympics with hardware and software.
And they're hoping that this will establish them as.
A world class computer company for all the world -- thing.
They not only have invested heavily in the infrastructure and -- -- for the Olympics.
They've invested very heavily and in design of things like the Olympic Torch.
