-- brag about the US has the largest prison population by percentage of any major nationwide tonight.
We're gonna -- in Oxford or who is managing to tap into that population actually make money.
Three squares greetings hazard created a lot of greeting cards virtually captive audience.
Terry -- them is the Oxford or founder and president of three squares greetings he joins us now from -- Terry great to see yet.
Thank you for having me thank you for being -- now you or an attorney.
So I have got some skin in the game you do you defended some of the -- you're familiar with but you also in the year 2000.
Got the idea because tragically you had a family.
Relation that got in trouble tell us about it.
I did your second 2000 my brother Jamal is arrested and imprisoned for -- period of time for eleven months.
And while he was there are encouraged to send him a greeting card and so that's -- the whole thing got started and -- hallmark just wouldn't do.
Right I went to my local hallmark store there was nothing that I thought was appropriate.
Because certainly when -- custody there isn't anything happy about your birthday and so cards -- just in my mind that appropriate and then while he was there also.
He sent me -- Christmas card over the 2000.
Christmas season and that card was really kind of it looked like this from 1970.
So that I got the idea to launch the line and I didn't really get -- started writing the cards and then I launch it actually last year.
And and it goes both ways by the way is as you suggested.
Your brother in law -- sent sent you something so.
Not only cards to send to people -- -- cards for prisoners -- sent outside now let's just give our viewers an idea of what these card shark is again.
Forgive me but at first I thought it was a joke it's not a joke.
This is serious business for people really care about friends behind bars -- relatives this is one called still and I'll read the inside.
I still love you in spite of everything I love you remember that and stay safe.
Now it's you know it's it's it's very hard not to make a judgment one way or the other -- if folks were behind bars but you've managed to do what would this.
Right at and that's -- I've tried to do it and often what happens is people Larry Bird it's a natural reaction we've built for people to think that military custody.
Don't have any friends and family and and the opposite is true they have friends and family members and they still love them and they want to send them appropriate greeting and so -- -- tried to provide.
At the same time at the same time you do have to be honest with the people there's one called disappointed which I like because yes you -- fess up to how the person on the outside feels.
This is difficult.
But to be honest I've been very disappointed with your sources choices but I have not given up -- you don't give up on yourself.
I believe that you could do better I love you.
So I like the way you know you're not being Nancy P&G about it saying you don't belong there aren't you belong there you you know you making bad choices but.
I'm I still love you and I'll be waiting for -- I liked that one.
Right thank you very much about it it's like you said it can communicate the very got a message they still tell the person that that their loved.
And that's what I think will make a difference in terms of them reentering society and trying to do better the next time now.
The next one is not necessarily for somebody who's who's actually been proven guilty yeah it's it's -- see -- in court.
And it says when I see when court it breaks my heart.
But I have to believe that everything will turn out all right you have you have to believe it too.
I love -- again not make a judgment as to whether they're innocent or guilty.
Because again that hasn't been decided but but sort of leaving it up leaving leaving the idea behind that there's love for this person somewhere out there.
That's right I got I -- that card mainly because.
As an attorney and I represented several criminal defendant that I see the agony -- their families experience.
And -- when they when they see them in court for sometimes two minute performance or even less.
They're they -- so torn and -- by that experience so it -- specifically for them.
Right now finally we got to run through these quick but you have.
Holiday cards and Merry Christmas card for somebody in jail you have to be you have the choice to be nodding your nice and -- -- dot dot dot.
Now you have to do your time but Christmas won't be the same without you here stay safe Merry Christmas.
So you know I'd say it's a little there's a little bit of humor in there.
Right and -- -- -- and -- still retain a sense of humor.
Believe that are oh I'm sure I'm sure that -- -- area.
Very interest that you were behind bars some of which you'll probably be writing from the stuff that comes out of the jail but finally -- happy birthday card is celebrating -- birthday in jail.
I just I can't imagine but here here's how -- -- it's your birthday and I know that you'd rather be almost anywhere else right now.
Hopefully one year older will really mean one year wiser for you.
Take good care happy birthday again you don't candy -- it even though it's a birthday card.
Right I try not to -- I don't want to cobble them -- -- -- able of them just.
Delicate situation -- and I think they appreciated with that but I have been told you know I'm I'm kind of hard -- on non criminals and crime I don't I don't believe in a lot of prolific but I think -- got -- just right here I think you did a great job on this we wish -- success when you come with a artifacts from prison please come back and and we'll have you -- again you can show us what the prisoners themselves would like to -- their loved ones.
How do that thank you so much they.
