We've -- -- to walk -- our personal technology columnist at the Wall Street Journal.
For his -- joining us from Washington DC in this week's all things digital -- great that they.
Big picture big question what's good about.
What did you like -- About.
Well it's 99 dollars so that's good the last almost 229.
And it's does a very very fine job of rounding up all the video.
Photos and music on the computers on your home network.
And they don't have to be apple computers they can be all windows computers long as they're running iTunes software.
Around all that stuff -- off but does really well with that.
-- it does have a large relatively large movie library.
Both from iTunes.
Where you can rent them and from Netflix.
-- now has Netflix if you're a member of Netflix.
-- it has this kind of new idea of renting TV shows for 99 cents plus as McConnell said.
That's this cool thing called airplay which if you have a eight.
IPhone iPod Touch or iPad.
You can just tap a button.
On why you -- you want to watch a video from that device or photos.
And wirelessly it'll just instantly -- -- on your TV if you have an apple TV.
That you think about those -- the good those of the good point that's all that those are very good many of the market points -- -- -- kid's soccer game or something you've recorded part of that -- -- Abundance on the TV that's great I think everybody would like that one of the things we talked about the Walt -- -- had done a couple weeks ago talking about Google TV is that somebody would figure out a way.
To bring Internet video onto the TV and make it work have they been able to do that.
Only -- a very limited way I mean.
Obviously iTunes itself.
Is an Internet thing but they're showing.
You know regular movies and TV shows via the Internet.
He do you have YouTube they had it before any more expensive model.
Now they have Netflix but apple is taking it quite a different approach than Google who is trying to -- you.
They don't go anywhere on the web to watch any video which is admirable except if you remember I thought it was way too complicated and not really ready for prime time.
Apple is trying to.
Gradually integrate these things as services and they have very -- there's this relatively if you're looking.
Get all the video on the Internet on your TV screen you do not want apple TV because that's not what it does.
What I -- you know would like where did you find drill holes while in terms of that that limited contact with CBS NBC worked it.
Networks that jumped out at me from your review.
Right right I mean -- inside the the TV show rental.
As you can no longer buy in the store on this apple TV after rent.
-- inside of the rental you're right CBS NBC you know any of the cable networks they really have basically.
ABC -- -- Fox.
PBS and BBC and a couple of other minor networks -- -- within the networks they have some shows are not present.
You can't find modern family you know which is very popular line ABC can't find American Idol so.
You know part of this is is.
The media companies themselves having you decide.
What's the business model right out of they -- to distribute and that affects apple and Google and broke -- and Microsoft and everybody else is trying to do so.
Bottom line then apple -- -- success and you know and in music players and phones and tablets now and everything else has -- Not had success in this area apple TV the first version didn't really catch on will this change that what's the bottom line.
Well I I.
You know I I never predict sales but I suspect this is gonna do better because it's 99 dollars and it has this airplay feature which is very cool.
And it has Netflix and I think that will.
Increase the sales but I don't think.
That as it stands right now this is going to be -- giant product I don't think you need these things that they connect you -- you're going to be giant products.
Until the media companies sort out what they want to do.
Well it was great to -- thank you so much for -- I know what I'm.
