Outraged constituents in town hall meetings in tea party's congress is getting ready to come back to Washington and -- the debate over Health Care Reform.
President Obama will be waiting for them with a new plan to get the job done.
The president and back scheduled to address a joint session next Tuesday.
Did take back control of the debate and tell lawmakers what he wants to see in Health Care Reform.
For more I want to welcome in democratic congressman just has stack of Pennsylvania fresh off a health care debate last night.
And -- -- who served as a top official at the Office of Management and Budget -- all aspects of Medicare and Medicaid reform policy under president George W.
And Pat -- is the vice president not health care -- comp -- where's.
-- warning telling good to see him.
All right down to be here good to see -- -- let me start with you you had a health care debate last night.
What did your constituents.
Well they're very anxious quite frankly I think Washington has done a terrible job.
Being in its own echo chamber.
Over the last few months and not explaining very well what we're trying to do down there.
There in the middle of the savage recession as you know and all the sudden we want to change health care what I also.
Heard last evening was.
We're not comfortable with the way things are where insurance companies actually do ration our health care.
Women 50% of all individuals insurance policies they can't get maternity service coverage and also we don't.
Can't get coverage have preexisting conditions what I heard is some things needed to be done but are you doing it right I believe we are and hope the president.
Makes it very clear he's gonna take a commanding position with specifics in it in order they make what's good for America occur.
These town hall meetings have garnered so much attention and I think they have not only shape the debate in this country.
They shape the polls for the president.
What does he need to do when he comes back -- -- to the members of congress next week.
Well I'm not sure that he can -- to do much of anything actually change the basic trajectory of the debate the basic problem for the president is that.
He is that what he's described as a plan to helped it.
Our nation's fiscal house in order he said health care a -- help our budget situation.
But it turns out it would have the exact opposite effect and that's raising all kinds of alarm among average citizens and also are among experts.
Did the budget is already well off track.
We had a five point eight trillion dollar debt at the end of 2008.
Under the president's budget it would more than triple by the end of -- -- nineteen to over seventeen trillion dollars that's their own numbers and that's before the health care plan.
The Congressional Budget Office said that the bills that are emerging in congress.
Would have 8% spending increases in perpetuity.
And a revenue that would -- at about 5%.
You don't have to be a financial genius to understand that that's a recipe for fiscal disaster.
So you know the problem is the plans that are emerging in congress would make our budget situation much much worse not better.
And I think that the fundamental problem the president can't correct with one speech.
Congressman let me go back to you you -- some comments last night in the debate about town hall meetings I wanna play your comments first second.
And then get what you're implying that.
These town hall had been represented.
They have lost their faith and in Washington DC.
They didn't placing this savage recession through no fault of the Rome.
And now we want to help deliver health care.
You mean by that because I listen to James talk about the figures the figures scare the pants off of me.
What are you implying.
I spent 31 years the US military as you know and I've been down in congress for about two and a half years.
The lack of principled accountable.
We stand for what you believe in and you just don't do things because if your job.
You do it for people's needs that's what they're worried about look I understand what was said.
Well what wasn't brought up is that the Bush Administration doubled our national debt.
And what he also didn't bring up is that by 201782%.
Of our GDP would under President Bush's plan B -- And so when you sit back and you.
You see something in Washington DC is the failure.
Of the hat fields and in the -- ways that Democrats and Republicans to work together on something.
We try to make political points on the other side do I believe this Health Care Reform is necessary.
Alexis I do you know I got in because my daughter's brain tumor that was states salvaged because of tri care.
But right now we lose a hundred billion dollars a year in economic productivity because of the un insured.
And 250 -- billion dollars a year in economic predicted because little -- insured and uninsured so.
To the bottom line what I was trying to speak about is we need leadership that's accountable about people not our jobs and that's why they're frustrated.
We haven't had that full well over eight years.
