While the college basketball frenzy will tip off today at about 1215 this afternoon when LSU.
Sanders Smith's LSU by the way and Butler tip off and of course everybody -- fanatic over March Madness.
It also get the attention of fifteen million basketball fans who have made out there pools and turn on their TVs and computers.
-- really been a slam dunk for CBS and March Madness on demand on the web it.
Which is -- thirty million bucks an Internet ad sales.
But good news for CBS is bad news for probably every other company in America.
According to a report from job placement firm challenger gray and Christmas the bracket bonanza could cost US companies billions.
And lost productivity is every online work in their brackets watch the games.
And not working.
For more on the March Madness we're joined by -- Robbins he's a college sports writer with the New York Post.
And doctor Dennis -- he's a human resources management professor at New York University.
-- -- thank you very much that -- begin with you really we hear about this every year I mean.
How much -- really people.
Is wasting time.
Well enough some would say you know wasting -- -- very enjoyable but what are they doing well -- I think that what they're doing is having fun.
And it in the overall scheme of things considering all the stories that we've -- about even this morning having fun is not such a negative thing from protective standpoint.
I think that the main thing about it that is is very important is that is this is in this can be an intelligence -- for -- way.
All right so if you're there in your spending a lot of time on the can.
We know they're tracking and so America knows.
They're watching you -- every major company has software designed to track this stuff just want to put that out.
And that's a which are so if they if you know that they're tracking you and you do it anyway there which you don't vision created an endangered species.
Yourself -- yourself.
So I think that that's one of the issues the other issue is.
I really think that from a productivity -- point of motivation is important.
And a lot of employers have noticed.
That that happiness is left the building.
Mistaken that's a great point fought along with them.
And if you want to invite the happiness and phone back and for guest shot only.
-- from a little -- Yeah you know let -- -- a great point because I mean people listen -- if you've still got a job you're worried about keeping it I've noticed that my commute people are more -- either more grouchy.
People -- working longer hours to keep the jobs they've got.
What do you think is the appropriate level of leeway.
Maybe a company -- like Dennis said you know giving employees a little break in my.
-- What what what are these people -- -- -- would leave people grouchy -- And -- talking about it and act like it and it and -- concerned that our crappy.
-- that is probable company has is that for a couple of weeks some of their employees are wrong like following that -- -- they've got bigger issues.
Well -- did some of the employees LN I mean seriously.
Not like you know here are they all work by the time I think -- another company that you're would be -- to everyone now to.
I think everyone gets into it -- the beauty of March Madness is.
All the lights right it's you know.
What year old woman a man whatever you went to a school -- what -- someone's kids playing at a school.
The school was from your hometown -- would have everybody's into it a bed feels like I've got my school in it.
-- Dennis go again if you're gonna consult with a company you know I had companies need to squeeze more productivity out of everybody.
But how much time would you say listen you know like you said have a little fun but but what's the appropriate balance.
-- thank you you need an out of the box solution to put -- big screen TV and in the media cafeteria.
You invite people on which also helps stimulate the economy -- -- celestial by the deputy of that and and and so with the local pizza shops too because -- a -- buying them pizza.
And not overly expensive and you invite them to walk -- to watch reruns with -- there's no reason for them to watch it live.
I mean they can do that you can have the best of the best.
They have to watch it live Lynn because then you're gonna know the scores drivers getting updates on -- -- think not not watch it live you kidding me.
The whole idea of watching it like -- the capture that moment of watching this.
When some guy hits a half court shot in the turns out it's the first -- he's having -- life and just upset UCLA.
First off VCU has not -- -- upset UCLA my Bruins okay had season tickets and a point two million indicated.
The let's move on from that that is when I mean I we're back to the grumpy workforce.
What teams -- IT double overtime hope he went against Duquesne.
Last night cares about the in nineteen anyway.
Never did see the energy level.
I mean it's it's it's a what are we doing we're wasting time talking about the NCAA tournament Wolfowitz are doing is energize yourself so when you do focus on what you have to do you do in fact it's a great what we're not talking about AIG who we have our -- bank bailout bracket I've got AIG being Citigroup in the first round.
But losing to Fannie Mae and with the regional semis.
-- -- -- -- -- I think it's.
Yeah gets credit they got the first bailout.
Right yeah it's -- six point two billion dollars to televise that has been happening -- about the bailout yet -- picks for us I know -- of those did you give any text -- -- I've I have I have quite think is going to be the winner and who should be.
All right so what are a typical professor OK but but -- but out but I'll I'll tell you -- the final winner is going to be.
University with Carolina without -- no and you're going to get.
But who like hope wins is -- it is like a -- A school like Michigan.
In in the state that's depressed because they could use.
Well lethal game at least the final -- at Michigan report at Ford Field Detroit let let Robinson quickly give us your final four we got to do we gotta get pics I've got mine.
You and I both have meant this -- in the hole -- -- Well yeah -- that would -- everyone out there to take all their article reminded jurors I picked Louisville Memphis this little girl Villanova you know that Villanova.
To get that Villanova North Carolina Memphis Louisville Memphis all the way.
-- -- -- the same except -- swapped out the other side I got Oklahoma Pitt Louisville Memphis.
Memphis -- and the whole thing.
