At a time when financial companies are cutting back on jobs and billions is Barclays has -- -- -- Its commitment to its partnership with the New Jersey Nets in the next -- -- hallmark -- -- right now back -- to see you would be here so a twelve year naming rights deal that many suspected in this climate would perhaps.
Fall apart and yet.
They reaffirmed it and -- a.
Major relief and it was but it would Barclays has never wavered in their commitment to the project to -- to and that's they've been a terrific partner for two years.
And are looking forward to going to broken with us and we're very excited just to be in partnership with partners you know when you look at.
Current climate items for hindsight is 22 -- -- but a lot of big.
Team owners and executives may not have made the plans that they have made in yet for the most part from what I can understand.
Things are going according to plan walk me through some of the litigation issues.
It's still remain in Brooklyn -- the Atlantic yards and and the timeframe in terms of getting this project.
-- completed as soon as -- like would love to we're we're on target.
We are going to hopefully get to litigation sometime in March.
Actually there after break ground I've been looking to break -- groundbreaking some time in the first half.
Obviously with Barclays and all -- our founding partners are suite holders and went excited about it.
I spend a lot of time Lexus and Brooklyn on meeting with kids.
Just throughout the -- every day and there is so much support for this project.
And we look at the project the affordable housing job creation and most important bringing a team sports entertainment back to the -- it's going to be a huge moment.
And we're just thankful that things are moving -- direction.
I imagine there -- two different scenarios going on right now -- as I imagined that building costs will decline because -- in -- depressed environment commercial real estate prices.
Are declining pretty precipitously and I think people are out of work on the other hand.
You also have to do you.
Tons of branding opportunity to talk about sweets in the importance of -- and we're hearing from a lot of owners.
But that is pretty difficult to come by this kind of climate has any excess capital is being cut how do you weigh me.
Those two equations -- putting this thing together.
Well we're fortunate that we've got a little time on our hands we will be in Brooklyn.
For the 1112 NBA season probably being broken actively doing this summer of 2011.
So give us a little time to gain some traction we pre sold -- -- to tone of about 30%.
And we're meeting with a lot of prospective buyers right now a lot of CEOs and all the CEOs were doing with understand that this is a it's very cyclical what's happening in the economy right now obviously -- -- -- -- -- -- -- downturn but it's gonna come back the unique to investment spending your -- long term.
And the companies that we're dealing with understand that.
One and things that you guys have had is this tremendous relationship.
With the stakeholders who have been out there in New Jersey men and then business owners and you've been doing some really terrific things to help those were losing their jobs or.
On the cusp of unemployment tell -- little bit about what we launched -- employment program last week.
-- -- Our philosophy for years has been about providing access but it's no longer about access to the paying customer it's now about access to the people that -- -- smokes and those the unemployed.
And we -- and outreach program last week where we identified five games in November December -- if you send us your resonate.
We will put aside 300 tickets for each of those games for people that are unemployed everyone needs -- night out and we want to extend ourselves to the extent that we can.
The response has been overwhelming we've received to date over 3000 resonates.
The tickets obviously have been spoken for but we're still acting as a job bank and trying to facilitate introductions between our season ticket holders are sponsors.
And those that are unemployed so for anyone who wants to censor resonated candid job think at NJ nets dot com and we're very excited to help those that need.
What a tremendous program when you look at what has happening right now I'm sure.
Some of what's happening is also happening to your fan base which is pretty crucial in this kind of climate -- They match up throughout there's so few and far between -- -- -- to keep people up psychologically people who have been long.
And and very ardent fans of of your game in the game of basketball right now it's kind of a relief for people when they're so much anxiety.
It is having the the NBA across the country has done a terrific job in reaching out.
Two communities to season ticket holders and into perspective season ticket holders two in the the last couple months and for that matter of the last couple years.
And I think right now it's about creating value it's about creating value for that was key stakeholders in the way they haven't received it before.
And that's about the experience and I think when you go to an NBA game today it's not it's not just about the game but -- -- overall experience and when people come in.
For two and a half hours they leave -- happy either thrilled to see great entertainers but most importantly it just a wonderful night out.
You know you talk about the experience and we've talked about this at length here both on TV -- and closed doors that.
Look at the cost to take a family to a sporting event you know my grandfather used to be -- -- Madison Square Garden for the lion's share of my life.
You know he used to be affordable to go do stuff and how it's just so unaffordable.
Now how do you bring -- back can you bring that experience back so we can take all of our kids to a game again we'll.
Again has been very proactive in providing.
Opportunities for anyone to come scene and -- game there are.
Teams out there that have tickets priced at 51015.
There are opportunities didn't go to the concession stand and and by hot -- for a dollar now.
And all that is is is an opportunity to bring in as many people as possible.
But for those people -- can't really afford a premium seat there's still an opportunity come out and enjoy NBA basketball and that is gonna continue not only this year but I think moving forward.
You know me I can't let you leave without talking about the real story and that his -- -- and other -- five right now.
But you know you -- Cleveland's -- -- what you're going to be like.
I like the direction of the team -- a year ago rod -- -- where general manager we decided to start retooling.
And it's been terrific you know eight or nine months -- acquired great character players we've got some terrific rookies and Brook Lopez and Ryan Anderson and Chris Douglas Roberts so it's a nice mix of veterans that you know like Vince Carter and some of these younger guys and this week and I think was.
A little foreshadowing of what's in store for the rest of the season we beat Atlanta twice in our young guys really played well.
Right on mark as always wonderful pleasure -- you really shameful you don't think -- I'd love that much keep this up today at Florida.
