It's down -- to keep your spirits up a holiday -- does not here and witnesses really slept til Santa I spoke to pastor Brittan warned about being positive.
And why he wrote a new book.
The purpose a person's.
I wrote this book the purpose of Christmas.
Really is an inspiration.
For people going through tough times it's for seekers it's for believers -- for skeptics.
And you can give it to anybody you want but it's about let's get back to the real purpose.
I'm not against all of the the you know the lighting in the gifts and also affected the Christmas is a celebration.
Yeah but I always wonder you you know.
The weather people when faced with the reality.
It's going to be a lean mean -- is evident that flies.
I know what he's saying your book but I was listening to member of the class of -- -- of the grinch stole Christmas -- this is my favorite part of it if we Kenya playback doesn't have much influence on this.
Did you get the third guy from the right was -- on and I left -- feeling -- all these guys gathered around it found out back house had been ransacked yeah writes I -- let nothing all the presents are -- You do two things in -- but I have two little boys that that that it it wouldn't go that way yeah you know just right right so what are we doing wrong that we we build so many high expectations of that because they want my kids would not be saying well -- towards -- there you know they date they they'd be to get -- It's -- what am I doing wrong.
Well the two things first you need to create some new Christmas traditions.
We've got to us ritual my house for 51 years and actually started when I was four years old.
And I was four year old kid I asked my -- so what's the purpose Christmas and she said -- Jesus birthday civil that's for real why we have a birthday party.
And so now for 51 years we've actually had a birthday party for Jesus.
And we do it's pretty simple we do as we get good very good either we get everybody in the room and we do about 45 things first you say some Christmas songs -- Oh we read the Christmas story and then -- -- around the room at each person shares two -- one what's the thing I'm most thankful to god for this past year.
That's an attitude gratitude and sometimes don't take thirty -- -- -- -- fifteen minutes sometimes light hearted sometimes are crying together depending on the year.
And then second thing is okay it's Jesus birthday you spoke to give a gift to the birthday boy so what are you giving Jesus for his birthday.
And we talk about those non material things.
Your life in your time and your -- is -- and your commitment and and your service and things like that -- we go around the room.
And then we closed by.
We got a birthday cake corsets Angel food not not doubles love scenario very -- mode and then we have candle.
And the youngest in the family it's -- blow up scandal we -- happy birthday to highlight I like that we get.
Newly -- -- you know sausage and peppers and I'll -- why afterwards you have all kinds -- other but let me ask you this now.
At that kids today might say I'm happy to do that but I still want the the trop I still want the cars yeah yeah where there's another thing you need to do.
As a parent you need to take your kids to see people less fortunate than them.
Most of the world would love to have our problems they'd love to be in mortgage shock.
Because they don't have anything.
And the key concern is very good point the key to Christmas is is to say okay let's find somebody less fortunate.
And get the focus off you and do something for somebody else you know -- at Thanksgiving meal the only thing we don't do is give thanks -- food we you know we watch.
Football we have a lot but but we don't give thanks and -- Christmas we do everything except.
Give ourselves a way which the whole reason we started Christmas.
A gift giving -- -- the wise men brought gets to Jesus and so we need to do is we need to teach our kids let's go do something for -- less fortunate you know what.
They get shifted pretty quick.
When they realize -- there I don't have any thing.
I got a whole lot more in my room than this person does but it's going to be tough for you right now you're -- business practically -- any of your family your friends are gonna expect you know.
I expect a lot from you know a lot of things I I I believe the story of Forrest Gump where you know when the storm came men.
And all of -- all of the groups -- and it's that we're gonna batten down the -- reportedly.
Ended the into the harbor and we're gonna wait out the storm and the only chipped it actually made it through the storm was -- one out doing what -- been doing all law which was fishing.
Okay and and I'm saying this is a time for us to reach out and here's my -- I spoke to the American Bankers Association last month.
And I said to them.
We don't want to swing to the other extreme.
We've had wealth.
Where when -- -- -- two million dollars worth well that day and he's never created anything of value it's just funny money stuff.
That's not -- build -- -- got to create something of value got to create a product or service lament that.
If you don't.
You know decide what's the value -- -- -- but I'm just saying when you're just playing around with making money by gamble in this -- You're not really creating any thing for society right on the other hand now we're gonna go the other extreme.
And the pin on swings to wealth.
-- that's not the answer either the answer is wealth creation in the middle creating jobs and that's what America needs to do.
