I'll play -- and I'm South Dakota senator Johnson to Boris -- Good morning I'm sorry this morning -- scenario.
I'm doing fine.
So I was talking -- Dagen McDowell program -- earlier this morning.
She says don't senator offenders shot that your guys have.
Gone to Saddam Mitt Romney -- horizontal well.
I didn't take any shots that it anybody but I did make a statement on the floor yesterday there's been a lot of -- being.
About this tax agreement that's been reached and most of it is from people who.
Are not here and not in a position to they actually have to make a vote what we're trying to do here is prevent.
A tax increase on January 1 on.
Millions of Americans family small businesses trying to make sure that we have conditions in place so that the economy can get stronger and great jobs and there are a lot of folks who were in criticizing that and so I made some statements on the floor about that and it sounds like some folks may be took that personal play but.
It really was a statement about where we are and what we need to do and why it's important that people get behind this this particular agreement.
-- can only hope that they -- take it personally.
We're gonna happen I don't know what it's like got a governor Romney.
-- doctor -- they're all against Ilya.
Tax compromise and know obviously.
-- support it.
Why do support him.
It's important force to get this done we don't have the luxury of waiting till next year everybody talks about.
Oh let's wait till next year we can get this it can be better.
Frankly I don't think we will get a better deal under any circumstance but if we don't do something now taxes go up January 1.
And that's why inaction is not an option we just have to get this done we've got to move forward and I think we have in front of us a proposal although not perfect -- their parts of that I don't agree with either.
-- -- in its totality does the right things in terms of extending the rates and providing some relief for people small businesses farmers ranchers who.
Want to pass their operation on the next generation their number of things in this.
That are really good for the American economy and which most Republicans I think support everybody's four.
The rate extensions and yet you've got a lot of people -- out there because they don't think it's quite good enough.
And I just frankly think at this point that you know we don't have options we have to get this done and those of us who were here in the fight are doing everything we can't get the best possible deal.
Jailbreak -- are -- climbing noted below explode video.
Oh deficit particularly deficit.
-- -- all want what's your response to that.
-- my my view on that is I had and it what you what's the alternative to Republicans out there across the country really want taxes to go up is that their prescription for dealing with the economy and for dealing with deficits and debt.
Historically if you look when you keep taxes low keep tax rates low.
You get not less revenue -- more revenue and and that's the lesson we should learn from history it's it's an empirical fact if you go back.
In the time but -- more importantly right now I think the people who were concerned about deficits and debt ought to be focused on the spending side of the equation which is what we're going to be focused on.
And when the house.
Goes Republican in January we've got stronger numbers United States and I can guarantee you there's going to be intense focus.
On spending because the problem Washington has isn't that it has too little revenue -- that it spends too much.
And that's where we need to be putting our efforts can be made retroactive in general aren't.
Well I suppose it could but who knows when that happens and and frankly.
I four I don't.
I don't think the things -- well I don't think anything changes significantly in January with regard to most of this proposal.
The unemployment issues gonna get dealt with we don't have the votes to stop that in the senate anyway most of us would like to see it paid for -- it's not gonna happen they have the votes to pass it.
And I think getting a two year extension is is an important win and I think probably the best we're going to be able to do.
Irrespective of whether we have stronger numbers in January night you still have to get remember sixty votes in the senate.
In January just like you do today which means you have to have a whole lot of Democrats.
The vote with you and then you'd have to get.
67 votes in the senate to override a presidential veto so we're dealing I think the would -- the hand that we have right now I think that.
That hand isn't going to improve a lot in January and I think people who want to see these tax increases avoided.
Need to get behind this proposal because as the best that we're going to be able to do and it's important that we get it done now.
Jindal and our international programming director of a senator -- -- from South Dakota.
-- I guess I asked her memory out of you're gonna run for president run.
I think William I think you do power Arian.
I'm just positioning to be your running mate I think and I -- ticket would be I don't know a lot of beautiful.
They -- for the country when you did send a veteran but.
