Got going out called holiday hopes.
Within this thing has been battered by the recession video games may be making a comeback for the holidays and the industry posted its second best November on record.
Only one console registered year over year growth.
Again be right now Sony's PlayStation 3 how to they increase the sales -- joining us with the answer.
An exclusive interview with Sony computer it and -- CEO.
Jack Trenton Jack -- you for speaking at -- that they -- and apologize in advance of week.
Have to stopped on the interview for the president of the United States but I do want to get down to -- called -- -- with you how was Black Friday.
-- -- -- amazing show it's difficult to exceed expectations beyond the high hopes that we had that we sold.
Units in the Black Friday week alone up 90% from November of last year so we couldn't be -- were -- every unit we can manufacture.
-- you -- you did make a price cut for PlayStation 3 -- do you think about -- impacted sales of what does that do to your bottom line.
Well there's no question that the price move had a significant impact -- but it's it's -- combination of factors.
It's people appreciating what comes under the hood with the PlayStation 3.
The fact that they've got a built in Blu-ray player the fact that they've got.
The ability to surf the Internet from their living room download videos music.
TV shows and movies all in one sleek device for 299 dollars I think it was a combination.
Of greater awareness with our it only does everything campaign.
In that really sweet price point of 299 dollars for something that is so feature rich.
Let me get this straight -- so if you've got unit sales increasing year over year for November.
It's December are old are you about inventory are you worried about supply.
There's no question that we're gonna be supplied challenged I mean we're gonna manufacture and sell thirteen million units worldwide.
Our sister territories are scrambling for inventory as much as we are I wouldn't say -- it's impossible to find but.
You may have to hit a couple of stores before you ultimately get your hands on one.
We're showing US console sales obviously over the last -- this is you're -- you're.
And you see the big decline in many analysts have already come out Jack as a that this is going to be over all of negative year for video game makers not -- also makers.
-- but also for the gaming industry overall how do you respond to that.
But I think it's a matter of -- perspective shall -- mean you can't ignore the fact that we're in.
When most challenging economies in in history.
But given that this is an industry that's been on a meteoric rise -- over 21 billion dollars last year.
But to have a November that's -- 8% I think is better than most sectors are faring right now.
Okay well you that you still are in even though you have the year for your unit growth.
You're still behind Xbox -- you're still behind.
Nintendo's how do you plan -- to get ahead of them for white tent -- -- us tonight have -- I got out and well I mean.
Ultimately we've always said it's a marathon not a sprint and I think you know the growth numbers that we're seeing -- indicative of the fact that.
People are embracing the PlayStation message and ultimately it's not where you start it's where you finish we've seen competition -- -- -- Over the fifteen years we've been in the industry but our consoles have always -- and successful.
You look at the PlayStation 2 that's in his tenth holiday season still selling extremely well but only the most ardent gamers could even remember who our competition was.
When PlayStation 2 debuted back in 2000.
Let me ask -- a a broader question you sound pretty upbeat does that then in your opinion.
-- the recession over the consumer -- it's still going to be a lot of blocking and tackling.
I definitely don't think it's over we still have challenges ahead of us they're still limited about a disposable income.
There's so many things competing for the consumer's time.
I've always said when people ask us about competition.
Ultimately people spare time this is the competition there -- so many things to do in and they're still only 24 hours in the day so.
I still think we've got some hills to climb but you know relative to the economic -- I think the industry is in really good shape.
And now it's not something just for.
You know fifteen to 44 year old boys it's entertainment for the entire family in the fact that that's been established.
I think really bodes well for our industry.
Well you know let me ask you about about games because still the bread and butter is those young boys that are out there playing call of duty in these other.
Warfare game of the -- out of the top seller so what are some of the hot names.
For 2010 of a lot of that parents are calling -- that wanna let it get the kids for the holiday what titles -- -- going to be.
Well our version of the Oscars the video game awards were just announced yesterday and we're very proud of the fact that -- PlayStation 3 exclusive.
Uncharted two among thieves was was picked his game of the year and that's the second year in a row.
We had game of the year last year with little big planet and this is -- to have platform exclusive get that prestigious award but.
Looking forward we have some incredible -- innovations.
We have a game -- -- -- will feature 256.
Players playing online.
First time ever for a console we've got some of our biggest franchises like grand threes -- god of war three.
Again exclusive to PlayStation 3 that we think.
We'll keep the the hardcore gamer in the casual gamer like coming to PlayStation during.
-- -- -- -- some people who like that we've because it's interactive you can play you know make like you do in the local we can play tennis concerning the surfing back right.
Didn't you -- given it plans to make the -- -- more interactive along those lines.
Yeah I think when we talk about the target consumer it's tough to be everything everybody from day one we start with that core gamer.
And then we we expanded the -- we expand younger older.
Into -- more female demographic we've done that with two previous generations -- do you see that happening with PlayStation 3 more family friendly casual games coming in as we get.
Into the -- product life cycle and you'll -- motion gaming coming to PlayStation 3.
In 2000 intent and our feature will be physics and accuracy so I think.
You know the immersive nature of gaming and and motion gaming something that's attractive but what -- you lot of that experience.
Is if it isn't true to life and now it doesn't feel like you're actually swing a golf club or baseball bat that's something that.
We hope to address without motion game.
Well with that would for the developments coming up for Sony PlayStation 3 -- of course but sales numbers -- threaten the CEO of Sony computer imaging and the united.
-- think you very much for speaking exclusively with Fox Business during the -- busy season for use our.
