-- NASCAR fans are here have for an exciting -- -- -- -- this year's chase at ten race playoff.
Featuring the -- is best drivers are shaping up to be one of the most watched it opens series yet.
The championship is literally up for grabs and racers are ready to go forward.
And challenge the Jimmie Johnson dynasty joining us now are two of -- top contenders to bring the cup home.
Greg -- And Kurt Busch could -- -- -- -- thanks for coming in appreciate it -- yeah I hear you -- still it's a little confusing for a lot of folks about how the chase begins but basically we're talking about this in the green room.
You can actually get into the chase even if you haven't won any what you do -- his.
Is if you have a great season averaged out you can get indication of -- not necessarily winner right capsule is very tough to get in the case of me is certainly not easy.
But you can get in without winning a race but Monroe you know most likely you've got some second and third place finishes fourth place finishes which you know and a 43 car field.
Each weekend is hard to do so there are a few guys in the chase -- here it's mathematically possible.
To get in the chase for the reason they do that a courses sometimes you can win on a fluke and sometimes you can lose and a fluke and -- -- -- wanna get that meaning and so you get.
Really the best qualified people in -- -- I mean are.
Points system is structured enough consistency and that was based off the 1972.
System which -- -- seven these were trying to bring cars to the race track and keep them there.
And do that by -- and consistent points don't have to win every week we just want to show up next on the consistency is what it takes to get into the chase.
But once you're in now you have to win now Greg the main thing is -- the -- -- attention and keep -- of people coming into the race which Howard how is NASCAR doing in that regard.
Well I think we're doing very well you know there's you know roughly eighty million people who watch our sport and you know it's still the number two spectator sport on TV and you know our attendance is down like any other sport a little bit at track attendance -- You know the racing has been this I have to say is one of the most exciting season so far.
And -- -- -- just get rated stars and the great thing about this sport I think that's why a lot of people prefer baseball to other sports is baseball you look at guys and they're normal people they're not giants.
They're they're not people to keep their folks you can identify with the same when NASCAR not only -- Denver with the drivers you guys look like average folks like we do right but you also drive cars yes -- souped up yes they do things that normal cars Clinton do.
But they look more similar to kind of -- our cars that most of -- -- Absolutely that's for branding that we want from -- auto manufacturers are represented dodge Greg represents four we wanna be out there represented in those brands when we win.
People know those cars are capable cars are being cool fast cars and -- wanna go to storm buyout by the way how did you get into talk about normal background how did you get into the sport well I got into the sport you know similar Kurt Kurt started -- race and local Friday Saturday night and that's what I did I started out -- local short track my dad and I went to the racetrack one weekend.
And went home and built street stock her hobby stock that you see -- local Friday Saturday night track and and that's how I got started we're telling me you were more on that the building side -- the racing side that is you actually had a business before he became a racer.
Of fixing up -- -- and that that's basically what I did is everybody that level builds her own car so I built a car went to the racetrack and what kind of -- what you buy it that was -- 74 forgery you know what my first I'm very Saturday or -- I think it was just because of convenience it's like hey there's -- Carlos does use about one it wasn't like we -- down.
Hunted for that particular car so.
My second car that was that's our early Chevy -- was my second car that you actually had a business -- -- point five people doing that how did you switch from that into drive well actually we sort of -- late model cars which -- the other top division -- your local Friday Saturday night and one of the guys we've built a car for had kind of falling out their group and said -- why do you come drive -- and so that's when I got.
You know back behind the wheel full time with with -- -- -- -- you have a similar background.
Absolutely I mean my dad was a auto mechanic he had bunch tools and we started building the cars and it was just a family way of life he -- I was one of mechanics on the team.
At that level you're -- learn everything from the ground up.
Most of the drivers as fluent -- how of course put together is there aren't driving the car I would say that most of Lamar there's some of the new kids coming in that are just -- What was column they're just racers they go out there and -- just jump in the car but our guys started from the roots by the way we gotta talk about.
Chase for second on the last time here is a couple years ago I chided you a little bit about not having one up until that point against we're talking about you.
Jonas I have to win to get in the chase.
And I sort of challenge you we actually dug up the tape let's play the tape and see if you have the new predictions.
It's -- little witness NASCAR fans may.
A little golden.
Okay what happened and one you have to want to until that time and you made the British don't ask me who's gonna win.
Who's gonna win I am I know -- -- and a -- -- were -- have you back now you have to come back up -- what do you think about that I got a video that they may I mean now that area go there we go my way.
What about the Jimmie Johnson factor here rarity isn't it time for a little new blood at the top.
-- -- -- kept -- last year year before that he did it for years in a row those guys on top of their game but you're on topping your game by the way now to you turn it.
Even places like Charlotte where -- been having trouble in the past you're doing great at Charlotte and grass that's the thing is you have to eliminate your weaknesses.
Some of the tracks we think you struggle on those -- the ones you really need to focus on.
To make sure that you have your best effort every week and so.
Johnson I think is time's up at least two guys right here I think we got a father say about as well the all the other good thing about NASCAR now -- you normal guys which you're very decent guys and everybody does genuinely root for each other even though you all like to win at the same -- -- You're great guys -- wish you both win but we're going to be watching thank you very much for being here Kurt Busch.
Greg Biffle ladies and gentlemen.
We wish them both --
