-- -- susteren death hey -- regarding over and that we already know or overspending we've raised the debt ceiling to almost thirteen trillion dollars at some point.
And it's out of control we need to get a handle on spending.
I've obviously been pushing -- during election for an across the board tax cut but Panetta payroll tax reduction.
To get the economy immediately jolt -- we need bold new leadership on these very important fiscal issues to get our house in order.
Commissions -- tell us for overspending -- we already know it and let's move on and start solving some problems.
Our particular senators -- not anywhere from nine months to close to a -- to decide that by that time we could be in a bigger hole and of course we -- and then I think who they should just say yes we're in trouble we need to start working everybody knows it.
And it's it's a waste of paper as far as I'm concerned we need to start focusing on putting people back to work and we're not gonna do it by -- -- commissioner.
Are other things need to take bold action.
You know put a freeze on on spending -- for a freeze -- certain parts of spending obviously.
A freeze on federal hires and and then pay increases.
And obviously doing a top to bottom review of every federal program coupled with the tax cuts in the payroll tax reductions to offer incentives for businesses to just start to it.
To hire and work and get their economic -- because once we do that.
-- -- get the economic engine going everything also fallen to place will be the not only in the military power in the world what will be the economic power.
And that'll give us the ability to do those all those other things of people who really come to expect.
We have this you know crazy plane crash in in Austin, Texas.
And we have a guy who's just ranting at the system rounded -- -- RS -- they have big government.
The need for health care than not the need for unions getting special -- I mean.
Really crazy stuff.
It's features -- actually.
Both certainly tragic and I feel for the families so obviously to being affected by it.
And I don't know if it's related but I can just sense it is not only in my election bid -- -- since being here in Washington people are frustrated they want.
Transparency they want their elected officials to be accountable and open.
And you know talk about these things that are affecting their daily lives so I'm not sure there's a connection I I certainly hope not but.
And we need to do things better.
I'm you know invariably people are gonna look at this the type of incidents -- and say well that's where some of his populist rage gets you know.
Is -- evidence.
Well yeah of course is extreme you don't know anything about the individually could have had other issues certainly -- no one likes paying taxes obviously.
But the way we're trying to deal with things and have been in the past at least until I got here is -- such a -- -- and in Washington.
And people want us to do better they want us to help solve the problems that are affecting Americans and in a very real way.
And I think we I'm hopeful that we can do that with a lot of things that are coming forward at least what I'm hearing to and speaking of my colleagues -- seems to be a different feel.
There's kind of a message that was -- my election the fact that and I was you know pretty elected by a substantial margin in.
Taking the former Ted Kennedy's seat that they want they want somebody different they want differences up here and I'm hopeful that's going to happen.
You don't have both sides obviously want to work with you I don't Harry Reid is good news talked to over the weekend may be good -- on this jobs bill this new jobs initiative.
But it says it is within a mixed blessing not a thing because -- Joseph Biden is criticizing over the weekend.
How are you adapting just said that on -- you know -- does does the vagaries of Washington.
Well it's no different it's just a larger scale and -- battle out of office for almost nineteen years.
Being a Republican in Massachusetts five out of forty in the in the state senate.
Think coming here the vice president you know obviously took a swipe at me saying I didn't understand that there attorneys and military tribunal how do you -- I do because I'm one of them.
I'm I'm a military attorney you've been serving for thirty years still serving he's missing the point he's trying to shifted away from the administration's.
I think guided mistaken not to treating these people as enemy combatants interrogating and pursuant to the applicable wise.
And then instead of giving -- thousand dollar an -- attorneys.
Taxpayer expense and giving them rights and privileges that they're not entitled to.
We should have -- be represented by -- captain major lieutenant colonel at taxpayer expense and a military tribunal setting so that's the first thing.
The second thing obviously live with a majority -- did really did reach out to me that a majority leader.
And I was thankful for that we are analyzing the bill and sometimes -- be the sixtieth senator other times will be the 41 senator.
And that's the beauty of being in this position and I'm looking forward to the challenges where would you be voting for this fifteen billion dollar jobs bill what you know but that's fine.
Well the first thing I know look at Chris -- went from what 87 billion down to fifteen billion so that there's a strike if that's -- in the good column.
In them and -- we're obviously analyzing right now we've had people come in and help you in some areas where I wasn't totally familiar with.
But there's some good good parts to -- -- some parts from hopeful we can get and open and honest discussion about.
Maybe amending certain parts to make it better.
Where there's -- there's many different ideas that there and and my goal and I'm hopeful that the leaders goal in the minority -- goal is to get something that gets people back to work as people are hurting they want to work.
Americans -- the hardest workers in the world.
And they want to have the tools to do that.
And there's a role for -- the federal government -- the federal government also needs to know when to get out of the way.
