2010 may come to be known in the movie business as the year of 3-D.
Avatar course at the standard 2009 and suddenly everybody had to be in 3-D.
And that may be why Hollywood made a little bit more money this year even though attendance slack off a little bit.
Here to score the winners and losers in Hollywood 2010 media entertainment analyst.
Peter -- courtesy of Peter thanks for coming in -- so bottom line is this is got haters seem to be I configured out of first.
Was stupid of me but I saw that attendance was down but the revenue was a little bit up that's because they're charging more for the 3-D movies right.
All three days 22 and three dollars more.
And that they make a lot more money they're much more expensive to make.
And they have brought in an audience -- a lot -- fact that if you look at 2010 and they were more 3-D films and have out there are more 3-D screens in previous gotten to emerge overseas as well.
Well one thing that's not.
Bringing in people is the star power used to be that the stars would bring in people you have this incredible movie called the tourist.
Our good credible at least when you think of the star power we've had beautiful Angelina Jolie and apparently the gals think that Johnny Depp is beautiful as well.
But it did it -- the right.
Yeah I hit it sure did well maybe it's his facial hair are not drag but the truth is that the movie blood.
The most regards perverse you know the -- they've they've -- it shines now when you least expect that and it and runs the gamut of this sort of -- when you wouldn't expect everybody -- -- think.
Funk that Johnny Depp was that -- -- there that they had an Angelina Jolie the biggest stock actress in the world pig get would flop.
-- while -- you have on the other hand movies like Toy Story 3 which.
Now I I have to admit I haven't seen Toy Story -- C inception in the twilight I saw I didn't see very potter movie but I can imagine but.
Toy Story 3 I'm told not only does have great special effects and a wonderful stars behind -- voices and everything.
But it has that it has a story that has made some people I talked to cry.
I -- it does reach the heart as well as as as the eyes and has the excitement factor right.
That's really -- big thing at the end of the day -- day on the page and on the stage and these loud noisy 3-D films have brought a whole lot of money the box office so sequels and franchises a little bit less this year as what's gonna happen next via.
But the reality is they brought in a very young audience and they crowded out all the more adult films only one film -- consider -- -- adult inception.
In that whole first twelve films the top of the -- it tells you big.
Noisy comic loud 3-D expensive and expensive the market.
Yeah well one thing about inception -- that was extraordinary was it was a very difficult film to follow up for those people say the audience is dumb and they won't take it as sophisticated film.
-- yes it had these -- spectacular special.
Effects and everything but still you had to follow the story line very closely.
But you know it was challenging because it was a directive it wasn't just done.
It was really enforce you to think about the film as you're engaged emotionally it was aimed at John Hart and better -- DA had it wasn't aimed at your head and -- went to give me.
And that's the key the key is a movie must.
Think you want emotional transportation.
That film -- visually and viscerally.
-- it's so you're saying that escapism works.
Boy it sure makes the box office -- it certainly does for the young audience and it certainly does today.
For the big studios those big studios.
Need those giant picture that can make those little pictures that make marginal profits they're all they have is too big so when you look at the end of the day those big pictures compete.
Favorably internationally they move in the international market against local -- -- and most importantly most importantly they didn't certainty why France picks -- to rule and -- cars still in Harry Potter six and twilight five it's just.
I hit so seductive for a studio to make a picture that -- -- potential franchise sequel that they got a gulf of those big ones.
But you know maybe it's a romantic in -- but but -- I hear about Toy Story 3 is not only being a franchise not only being -- fun for the kids but.
It really did hit the hard and I and I wanna think you know in less in lets you at some point.
I hit the emotional strings you're not going to succeed.
There's no doubt about it and that that's a beautiful picture and think about -- look the legendary.
Hits this company has had.
In my step ten in a -- we know flops all all the ads they must have the secret -- -- out.
Well a man who was never been a flop in my eyes anyway Peter -- Joining us once again good to see if Peter thanks for coming in a brief.
