-- of the company that allows users to make audio and video calls adding to video calling features.
Mobile video calling and -- -- video calls on computer.
All right let's get the review of it from Walt Mossberg is.
Weekly appearance on the show personal technology columnist at the Wall Street Journal are all things digital.
He wanted to see you back in DC from from Vegas said at CES show we could talk about.
Let's talk about the mobile side of it first so now -- -- video calls right -- you tested it out on Skype attic up.
I did tested out now.
There have been some.
Mobile video calling services before this apple introduced I think -- facetime last year.
Works only on its phones I reviewed a company called tango there's -- another one called quick which.
By coincidence strikes.
But I'd say.
The Skype video calling which is so far only on the iPhone.
Coming to android later.
Was a pretty erratic in my tests.
It works over both three G and Wi-Fi and over three G.
There's a lot of but sinking problems and -- and -- -- Shannon you know -- cutting often.
Just just not what I would call reliable and Wi-Fi is better -- even over Wi-Fi eight a lot of the time.
The call would would break up -- there'd be problems so I can't really recommend.
That it's a reliable.
A reliable way to communicate what how did it work compared to other mobile video calling services it was -- -- -- -- Well at least on the iPhone.
Apple's own face time is better.
Just than any of the other ones I've tried and there are a couple of reasons for that.
One is either apple or AT&T it isn't clear which has.
Limited it to using.
It don't only over Wi-Fi DA and so.
When you're over Wi-Fi have more bandwidth so the call works better the other reason is apple is integrated very deeply into the phone and these third party guys.
Don't have -- quite the same opportunity to do that but.
But you know even that's even face times not perfect but it is in my tests at least significantly better than the other ones I've tested.
That may be as the networks and for of these services -- prevail as well one of the talk also about the video or the the group calling feature that Skype is now made available which we should point out.
Is not free right waltzing in you group calling with a number different peoples are showing on the screen right now via pay for it.
That's right it's eight.
99 -- a month.
There's a seven day free trial and if you just monies are for one day it's up it's five dollars for a for a date -- And this one I had the opposite reaction now I did much more limited testing of this and I was testing with state.
But I have to say.
-- worked to it worked really well now of course we were on computers not on fonds and we were not using.
Cellular networks but.
You know there -- I was communicating with four different people so -- mean that was five then -- It was sharp it was clear there was very little or a couple of you know maybe 12 break ups but really basically you could.
You could have a productive group conversation.
Walt Walt bottom line is you get what you pay for our free is brilliant tennis is better you better -- -- -- well that's one good way to put -- -- and thank you won't -- -- great to see you as always can't wait to see you next week you'd be well.
