-- us now former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum for the latest on -- primaries.
Let's start with their state Pennsylvania looks very into -- it's neck and neck right.
Well yeah I had to connect connect but you've got an -- thirty year incumbent now granted the first time he's run as a Democrat Arlen Specter -- -- -- thirty year incumbent and -- pretty anti incumbent -- his.
I haven't seen any poll that has him above 45 and that's just not a good place to be having on this side is generally don't go for guys -- -- for thirty years they tend to go for the new guy even though.
Suspect suspect is an incumbent -- don't have been around for a couple of terms.
My guess is set stack went I don't I'm not even sure this is going to be a close race you know what that's the thing about this race is that there's suspect winds.
It seems like he's more to the left.
Than than than than than Arlen -- by but he you know this -- be lost for the White House them.
One of an update because President Obama -- this put all its chips behind Arlen Specter which again I'm sort of scratching my head -- I mean he's certainly not the most reliable vote out there and again just has that run around the state -- I'm gonna be a Barack Obama is number one cent I'm going to be the go to gotten to be the most Obama supporting president -- in the United States senate so.
I -- -- I it's in the sense of the loss for Obama because he put his political support behind but of if -- -- is ultimately successful.
You'll have a very reliable vote -- that no question about what what about Blanche Lincoln looks like she may squeeze through but under more pressure than anyone thought -- would be at this time.
Yeah I mean -- considering the money advantage he had -- and certainly you know -- -- two term incumbent and someone who's considered to be you know Bob you know fairly you know sort of a moderate Democrat.
Hi she's got attacked from her laugh and you'd think in Arkansas that wouldn't have much of a chance because you know most of the Arkansas -- -- Democrats are are are are sort of mainstream.
That is not that that's not what's happening here she's under real race and looks like she will survive most of the polls have a -- It almost double digit lead but she's under a lot more stressed -- -- thought she'd be under at this point.
They'll -- we talk about the importance if you know some of the young Republicans can take some of these seats what they don't and I guess that's certainly see the winds of change in Washington changing so rapidly.
How big of a setback would this be.
If all the talk of you see now we're gonna see real change because people around America are upset and they don't -- it in the polls.
Well there's two big races to watch for that -- -- that regard number one is a Pennsylvania congressional district Jack Murtha is old seat -- up for.
A special election tomorrow on Pennsylvania that race is a dead heat race -- every poll I've seen you know has it within a couple of points either way.
-- that's going to be you know who's who's excited who's gonna turn out if you look at those most interest in -- race though this is important for a general you know as a general discussion.
The folks who are most energized are the folks who are gonna vote for the Republican self in a primary election off year election.
Those are most energized tend to be the folks who who show up to vote and -- that's the case.
Both here and in -- way race in Hawaii where Republican is running against her Democrats.
Again same thing the most energized -- the Republicans.
-- taken out of voted -- vote in the numbers that people are projected I think we have a chance to win both those -- and of that happens.
That's gonna send a huge shot across about President Obama -- -- to the Democrats -- Washington.
Senator -- all the little did labor unions have to play in all this is these are pretty blue collar states and you know we have the union's problem coming out full lawyers.
Can they -- this.
Well again you know most of the -- to come out for Arlen Specter about you know he had an event yesterday and I outside of Philadelphia there a hundred guys there I mean you know.
And -- you know you don't -- hundred people show up playing at a union event that tells you that the enthusiasm isn't there and actually the problem.
Oddly enthusiasm for labor is really not there right now on and that's the enthusiasm is on the Republican side so that's that I think ultimately is the is the linchpin that's gonna switch when -- our way.
Ashley you have great guy.
Just coming back to the US from Europe -- looking back to what's been going on in the United States do you get the sense that the anger against the administration right now is perhaps now that the health care.
The whole debate one that's now kind of being put to -- -- do you feel that the anger against the government is slipping back just a little bit and that may give the Democrats a little more impetus going into these.
Primaries yeah there's no question now that it's out of the headlines then and -- -- not a date none of the cataclysmic things that -- were predicted happened -- of course know that everyone knows the build literally get -- for several years.
But it has it has in and the economy start to pick up there's no question that the Democrats have gotten in president Obama's gotten a little bit of a bomb here.
The that but I gotta tell -- as -- travel around the country and I talked to Republicans.
There is a resolve they know that how important this election is.
There is there every every place I go crowds are bigger than they've ever been more enthusiastic.
It when it comes to get off year election not a presidential election.
Turnout is everything.
Our folks are based folks are still energized and and I think they're gonna come out I think they're gonna make the difference in this election -- before I let you go you're talking about enthusiasm of people coming out.
That Kentucky race is supposedly the one that's going to -- the Tea Party.
As not not only not being Astroturf -- probably.
The moving factor or the mode the most important force in politics this year.
Well there's no question that you know the they -- consensus can candidate was Trey Grayson and you know I I'm supporting trigger -- -- -- -- -- solid conservative.
But the Tea Party folks have rallied behind -- -- Ron Paul son Rand Paul.
And he is that he's certainly caught on fire and -- someone right now that seems to have the energy in Kentucky and I if he is successful in pulling that off you know I'm fighting against Mitch McConnell the -- minority leader of the United States -- and the guy who built the Republican Party in Kentucky.
If Rand -- successful that's gonna -- you know send a signal to Republicans that you better watch out.
Bodies folks are for real and they can organize -- -- -- elections that's right.
Rick we cover a lot of ground thank you very much in of course we'll be talking to -- a lot this week a lot of big political news.
Look forward to it.
