One carrier for example AT&T offers thirty different plans and that's just for an individual so if your family.
Choosing the right plan can be a real -- so how do you do that.
The Wall Street Journal just completed a huge investigation of cell phone companies and the journal's technology editor Scott Austin joins me now Scott welcome to the show it's great to have you here -- me 700 plant's 688.

We were startled when we went through this analysis took -- three months to put this calculator together because there -- he said nearly 700 different combinations.

How is the average consumer supposed to kind of figured this out and.
You know he's -- interesting thing about this -- AT&T bring them up but they have -- actually contradicting each other tell us about that.
Yeah -- that you if you look at their family plans and these are kind of their legacy family plans of two to five lines.
Nearly 40% of those plans are actually more expensive.
Then these mobile share plans at eighteen -- option actually offers.
With more data and more voice minutes so there's all these conflicting plans out there sprint does the same thing and and part of it is when you have confusion in the marketplace.
People don't know what to do they have this analysis paralysis and the end of stain and that's what these carriers who.
Hoc analysis paralysis that's a really great way to put it okay.

You know again we're trying to simplify -- really bring transparency to the marketplace so when we saw all these plans and people complaining constantly about the carrier not really realizing what to do right we we try to find a way to to make it very easy so it's just for simple steps.
You can type in your the number of lines that you need how much taxed how much voice and how much data.
And then we show -- the cheapest plan of each of the four top carriers -- T-Mobile.
AT&T Verizon and sprint think.
So I can't really know the right answer that question that the other problem right that changes go unlimited everything.
It's a ticket question you know sprint and T-Mobile both -- that of course their networks are weaker than AT&T and Verizon have smaller coverage areas.
But most people when you say unlimited everything you're really talking about data because most people now with the Smartphones consume a lot of data.
But most people also use under one gigabyte.
Of data which is not a whole lot when you look at the -- -- options to gigabytes five gigabytes and then unlimited.
So you really often -- a lot more than you should a lot of peoples but -- research analysts say that.
People are overconfident and so they overpaid and I think most consumers probably are -- my theory that I have a theory that says you tell me if I'm -- -- -- I think.
They're trying to confuse us so they can get more money for well that's that may be part of it -- of course the carries won't say that.
But that's when you look at again data the -- options for the carriers like T-Mobile sprint who are desperate to get.
People to come from Verizon AT&T they'll still do the unlimited and take the hit.
But the other carriers realize by having used -- -- options in the confusion don't know what to select they're probably gonna pay more.
