Phone companies are rolling out the latest and greatest in Smartphone technology it seems like it happens every day but.
Two years can feel like an eternity for Smartphone users watching the contracts.
Eighteen TT mobile or rolling out new plans allowing users to upgrade their Smartphones and tablets more often to stay on top of -- -- to get the new -- -- But will the plan save you money in the long -- joining me now Kevin temple.
Mobile editor for -- down well over the show Kevin let's let's split these down one by 11 let's talk about eighteen -- next to land.
Is how does that work.
Sure and thanks for having me on the show -- the AT&T next plan that's pretty much a direct response to a T-Mobile initiative from last week.
And what it does is AT&T will let you.
Put no money down and pay a flat fee per month just for your phone.
Now it's going to vary based on the phone but using the galaxy S four as an example that's that's a pretty hot phone right now you can pay 32 dollars a month for the phone.
After twelve months of payments.
You will be able to upgrade that -- any time the trick is you're actually giving that phone back to AT&T so any investment -- put -- that phone.
It kinda goes away.
You -- talk releasing a phone at that point.
I was gonna you know -- a lot like leasing a car.
You know -- -- pay India paying in never own anything let's talk about teen Mobil's -- -- as you mentioned that what does that look like.
Sure we'll T-Mobile already went to they contract and no contract plan where you just by your phone and and pay for each month already.
Basically they're saying for -- just add ten dollars a month.
And that will give you the insurance on the phone as well as the opportunity to upgrade every six months eighteen -- every twelve months so.
A big difference there and in the -- plans -- it right away.
You know I'm thinking I don't now call me cynical but.
It it seems to me that may be what's going on here is they're finding new ways to make money off -- -- and I'm not sure that -- and benefiting.
What do you make of these plans.
I think your instinct is correct.
I carriers are are still still trying to make it much from us as they can.
Think T mobile's plan is a little bit done better for most consumers you'll always find out liars that could benefit from the AT&T plan.
The problem I have with the eighteenth -- next plan though is.
You're actually paying for your phone twice you're giving them your your monthly -- -- be 32 dollars a month that galaxy S four and you're still paying the same cell phone rate.
And that rain actually has about twenty dollars a month built into paid for the phone the purity -- -- -- -- IE say yes.
When you have when you when you buy that 200 dollar iPhone for example the phone is actually 650 dollars -- -- -- the carrier will subsidize.
450 and make it back in the plan so it's a little bit tricky little bit of Fuzzy math.
Fuzzy math but the -- not benefiting me Catholic I think thanks for turn on the light on for a -- appreciate it picked back up.
My my pleasure Gerri thanks.
