Worrying our next guest conducted a mid -- STV challenge.
We're six of the most popular models went head to head in a series of test.
Using feelings to test them -- Chicago your share results Jo white and -- her executive editor at cars dot com -- let them back to the show great to see you so let's talk about the contenders here and how you conducted this challenge.
Well the cars -- challenges always have chosen -- particular segment a type of vehicle we've done cars pickup trucks.
Small suvs and the larger ones and at three rows of seats.
This time we decided to zero in on that mid size class.
That has five rows of seats good interior volume more than you'll get in a car but not quite as much as a big truck.
And we set a price cap and we picked 62.
To go to the test.
Let's show the contenders right now Ford Edge Hyundai Santa Fe sport Jeep Grand Cherokee Kia sorrento these summer on -- creative and -- Used real people the test these and it seems to me they might have had different criteria.
Then the people of cars dot com or other experts how to -- differ.
Well we've always including consumers in these tests we do have a whole day -- expert testing as we call it.
But the consumers do the same thing that we do we get a family in this case it was a couple in their two children.
And they go from one vehicle to the next and check them out inside go for drives the same route each time.
And that is honestly the best thing about this type of -- because it allows them to do and allows us to do something that's very difficult practically impossible for regular consumers to do.
Because if you go to a dealership they tend to sell one -- So I only have all the other by the mall out in the same day obviously and and and -- making real world comparisons.
I did they have different priorities different things they were looking for than the experts.
Well we always.
Find little things that stick out that we might not have thought of even though we do this all day every day.
A lot of emphasis on technology.
People who haven't shopped for cars or -- -- a long time don't realize how much there is now just things as simple as USB ports in the front and the rear or regular household you know outlets in the -- for people to charge their their phones use their tablets and such.
Always gets a lot of attention from people.
Our consulates and would do the big -- here the winner is described as a luxury liner.
By some of these individuals who tested what was it.
Well it was the Jeep Grand Cherokee which was just updated for 2014.
It's actually we've done a couple dozen of these you know large scale tests and no Chrysler product has ever taken the lead.
This one just rose above.
Interesting what people like about I I heard there's all kinds of technology in that thing.
I'm there's lots of technology and its well implemented they have a big eight point four inch touch screen.
Which in itself isn't something but it's really easy to use on the other end of that spectrum would have been the Ford Edge which had touch sensitive buttons people didn't like so much.
-- wasn't included at the price that we tested.
Heated front and rear seats love that navigation system on all of them back up cameras there was a lot of stuff and it was just it was overall very strong and that's usually what rises to the top in a test like this.
And what came in last.
What came -- last was the Toyota vans.
About a -- a few different things worked against it one as it was really the only point of concern.
As far as driving attributes are concerned.
Because people didn't like the breaks they thought it was too much you know action for your lag and -- -- numb pedal.
They did not like the interior quality and that reflects mainly that that vehicle and the number five finish of the Nissan Murano.
Haven't been redesigned and the longest since 2009 and it just shows.
How much brighter that -- quality has gotten in these things how much technology plays a part in how quickly it's added.
The -- also -- little bit more of a wagon has the same space inside five seats.
But it's lowered of the ground and Americans just don't like wagons they prefer something that -- up higher I think that hurt.
Right especially men I think men like to say.
What not quiet that cabin looked down on the rest of the -- -- thanks for coming on tonight great step in for me interesting if there.
Thank you -- here interest.
