Hey how about the US getting out of Afghanistan in a big time -- the New York Times has big story this morning about it saying president Obama's considering speeding up.
Our plan withdrawal so we have former Republican senator and Fox News contributor Scott Brown.
He joins us now with some perspective.
On that one of the things senator brown it's on the table supposedly is what they describe as a zero option.
We should be no US troops in Afghanistan period after 2014 -- your view.
Well certainly the devil is in the details.
While they may take them out of Afghanistan they may put them in the surrounding areas.
As saying hey we're out of Afghanistan but in reality they're still in the region.
And in order to have a quick reaction force and be able to respond to any situations that come out.
What about all the contractors ago that are going to still -- presume be left there.
We pay about three times as much -- what we would pay the soldiers who's going to protect them.
A lot of unanswered questions I personally think it's a mistake he gonna leave a lot of the progress and and a lot of the things that we've -- in a positive manner on the table and and though its offer not almost you dollar come back to that debate in just a moment but I -- you brought up the money angle which always interest us.
How much is spent on contract is is is certainly part of it but broadly speaking.
Is it worth it is it worth it anymore to be spending as much as we do you in Afghanistan.
Well that's a question we do have a plan that we have a plan to withdraw -- it's a plan that I've supported.
But the question now is because of the transition what's happening over there right now.
Are we going to leave everything on the table.
Listen we are at a stabilizing force whether you like it or not.
If we can continue to get some coalition support and have they are a -- force did it not only train up.
The armed forces and train the police.
In Afghanistan it's something that we had planned on doing we spend billions of dollars doing it anyway so we're just gonna leave is that is that it is that -- the plan hopefully I have a fear if we leave we'll be right back there at some point in the near future however leaving area.
As I said at a training force there quick reaction force in order to address any issues that come up I think is a more.
Reasonable our proposal but we'll have to see what that what the details aren't.
And all the proposals but I'm not in favor and I don't know too many people that are.
I -- -- -- money are left.
In the times article by those kind of funny that the that this that the President Obama according to reports -- sources I guess was -- growing increasingly frustrated in his dealings.
With President Karzai in Afghanistan and that's a story seems to be you could have wrote.
You know did at any given time there would be read into that now suddenly we're frustrated dealing with Hamid Karzai seems to come out of and -- did some recent stories about it but you could have brought that story since -- -- a number of years ago now on your question about a quick reaction force would not be different gold -- we would be quote -- helping them build a new nation anymore that's what we're doing it.
To be about a quick quick reaction forces to have potentially protect our contractors -- trainers.
Obviously put down any any real problems -- we've invested so many.
Lives and limbs and time and money and blood.
And that country in order to exit in and -- thoughtful methodical manner I think is appropriate and getting back to your point about Karzai was I was sitting in the same room with him with a coach Kelly went down in.
That was when he was talking about how he was going to.
Be supporting the Taliban now in and we all looked at -- Michael excuse anyway.
And it was it was incredible and -- has had a history of being.
Unpredictable and someone in state unstable at times but isn't there Tommy's -- -- -- this guy you know.
Are now well then then then we're gonna put and I you don't understand terms of us dealing with them we say you know what we can't take it anymore route.
Well then what that we're going to be back that we gonna is it that we then gonna have the ability for al-Qaeda and the Taliban that go in and re established terrorist bases and export terrorism around the region in the world again.
We all leave all of our gains on on the floor not.
Have any type of progress in that region.
Listen that's a great question we could go on for hours and have a great debate and a panel.
About that issue I just want to make sure it's done of all effects on the table wolf with full and fair transparency.
And then we'll see what happens Foley didn't hit a panel today we just had former senator Scott Brown it was a good discussion it and have and of itself so it's good to see senator thanks for coming out today thank you think you think.
