Every incoming CEO has some type of challenge but for the just -- CEO of the Philadelphia 76ers.
Tried no coach.
No star player and a franchise in need of some real sparkle.
Scott O'Neil former head of -- sports just got the nod he brought Madison Square Garden its first ever -- partner JPMorgan Chase.
Along with many other well known brand partnerships -- his new York state of mind help the city of brotherly love.
Scott O'Neil Philadelphia -- incoming CEO of gutting it out in a Fox Business exclusive and Scott first ball Lotta people in the sports business world.
We're waiting to see where you ended up now we know congratulations.
Thank you actually thrilled to be here and be -- of this resurgence of this great franchise but what's not it's a stretch for you I -- -- worked in sales for the NFL's Philadelphia -- -- the Philadelphia angle of this you've got under your -- right.
-- in -- Villanova grad -- so I definitely have kind of feel that this is coming back home.
It's nice well you've got not only a huge sports challenge ahead of you but -- business challenges well so you have.
The sixers in a rebuilding phase it's been two months since coach Doug Collins resigned now the team has traded all -- -- holiday for it a rookie.
-- know well how will you tackle the challenge of marketing -- team.
Without both the star player in the league defined by stars and of course -- cup for -- Well I think that's that's.
The exciting part an exciting challenge and what makes this business.
So special and so exciting at this time for someone like me.
You know when you look at inopportune like this and you have a chance to go to a great city like Philadelphia and a brand like the sixers.
Any chance to work for Josh Harris and -- blitzer.
-- -- I would -- be any place in the world as far as that that challenges go.
It challenges or opportunities depends on how you look at it for me -- for the roller coaster ride.
I can't wait to kind of be part of this resurgence.
We have a plan.
In place it's going to be executed and we're gonna have some fun and we need you come down to a game.
-- out that is a definite I'll bring my brother -- lost even with me because Steven Spielberg -- reconcile the sixers -- You've faced a similar situation in New York when you got to MS GN and the knicks in 2008 I mean now.
They're a winning team and a cash cow again but they work when you got there.
It what is the first step you say there's a -- I'm not asking you to repeal the playbook but when you get to take the sixers on that path.
What will it look like from a business standpoint sure.
-- no actually -- you know you can look at the Philadelphia Eagles when I went there when Jeffrey Lurie just bought the team.
And then also the the knicks and Rangers.
You know you come in any struggle on the field there on the ice and on the court.
But we -- looking for is the right ownership group.
You're looking for -- a plan to get -- place.
And you're looking for a city that understands sports.
Anke where where you can capture that passion I think they're they're very all of them run parallel.
Where -- a couple years behind and so we're gonna get there a way to get there the right way with the right people very talented group of talented staff.
And we're gonna go out and engages community and I think Philadelphia is a city that's proven in the past be -- terrific sports city.
And one that as we become involved in the fabric of the community.
This team this community's gonna -- -- the front of -- front of the Jersey just like they -- the back of the Jersey well.
OK so very go I mean getting fan frenzy started is very important and and most would say that the way you do that is -- Really stoke a rivalry with the with the team against which they play.
What rivalry do you think we'll get the fans most frenzied and to buy those jerseys and to cheer on this team and by the tickets and by the merchandise.
Yeah well you know they're very -- robbery start you know they always do with with playoffs and I and I don't think we're quite there yet.
So we're gonna focus on is make -- share that that this this market and he stands -- give us a try.
Come out and we'll get your great night out whether it be you wanna do business or you want to bring your family -- you wanna have a date.
What we can promise you is our guys on the -- -- gonna play hard.
You play hard every single night and they're gonna do it it play the right way and we're gonna put on a show that would be second to none.
Okay it will then you get to.
What you talk about with like a Q what do Jerry Buss doesn't deserve it I won't invite you to a game I'll invite you to -- show so so I would I would support that definitely you know.
The value of the team is also important we were just putting up on the screen the value of say for example the top five teams it's not a surprise that.
The lakers and the knicks are are one billion plus.
One through five here on the screen then you got to go down to twenty.
To get to the -- so it -- these franchise values are very important what do you need to do to get that beefed up.
Well Liz I watch your show quite a bit and oftentimes talking about the market in big opportunities with stocks and and the last thing you want to do is buy stock -- right back.
So so I think if if you've -- on a horse is the one you bet on if you're buying a stock I'd be behind the sixers.
This is an organization that's going in the right direction with the right strategy and right donors and this is the right -- Right you know let me finish up by asking about the fact that the sixers aren't the only ones in transition so was the NBA with commissioner David Stern leaving Adam silver at the Helm what issue do you want him to address.
As a top priority.
A man he's got a say what he's got a great canvas to work from Italy has been so instrumental in building the business to where it is now.
Andino he's got the -- finals were spectacular the emergence of stars is really.
Have come out again we have a new phase of stars.
Coming and that -- -- the TV coverage was terrific.
But I think where he's gonna make is hey this is is globally he's gonna continue got the ground a -- the ground set by commissioner stern.
And you got to see expansion.
More in South America in Asia and India and I I think he's gonna take it to a whole another level that I tell you what basketball fans and and business people associate with lead around the world.
Should rest -- -- smile and and hopeful hopefully someday meet him shake his hand because he's gonna still holed another stratosphere.
Scott we wish you well.
Not to welcome from a clinic we have -- -- to -- soon have a good -- -- and a half I.
-- my brother lumbering -- a Fox Business Kevin -- he's a seventy sixer fan every you got a lot of people here who like -- thanks so much Scott.
Bring -- -- we love the list thanks very think Scott and AL the incoming Philadelphia 76ers CEO a lot on his plate we'll see how we does closing bell ring.
