Jennifer biological diversity in Tucson bill when you heard this thing you -- to do it.
Can't fit and well yes I am because I think it's a good idea but before we all hyperventilate.
We're not talking about ten dollars up or down where congress would have to set the amount of any tax or fee.
And the most important thing about this proposal.
Is that there is a rebate attached to the American taxpayer would get the money back this is a -- why you do it -- -- program -- sounds like exercise in futility why do it at all.
Because climate change is killing us right now I'm in Tucson right now that has had its over a month.
Of 100 plus degree temperatures Phoenix is sweltering Las Vegas super storms -- mean we have to do something about climate chances this is -- conservative solution.
Essentially -- -- what you're saying though is that you're gonna make life more miserable for everyone else that you're gonna -- their pocketbooks.
And there's no but I have to buy gas because guess what -- still kind of got to go to work they still kind of got to go to the supermarket in occasion taking kids to soccer practice so you're gonna make life even more miserable for people inside their wallets and outside when they go to the car.
Now I don't look at that when I've got kids and I drive my car and I take my kids' lacrosse practice this is gonna help the American people are gonna get the money back.
We have got to get a grip on climate change on the go back to something I said -- again erupted.
This is the conservative solution the climate change many conservative think tanks the arch street institute.
Many economists have said this is precisely the way to deal with climate change don't have congress.
Deal with -- -- -- many plans haven't be appear economic program if you add that with the existing Clean Air Act we actually may be able to tackle climate change in a way that makes sense for the American people.
So essentially your ideas that you tax something people use it less but they will ultimately get a rebate and get that money back again it seems like the weird exercise in futility ultimately if you take the money for me Tuesday but you -- back to me on Friday.
Then what's to determine.
Well because what's gonna happen is if if buying gas is more expensive but you're getting that rebate.
Are -- gonna continue to pour money into gasoline -- carbon intensive fuels are gonna look for other ways to save that money.
It's just like tobacco I mean we tax tobacco because we wanted to be use less at some point.
We have got to deal with carbon pollution and that seems to be -- most logical way to do it.
And that in addition to existing law again conservative theorist I and urban America whereas before -- times right now.
Any I -- to thank you -- -- we've been debating about a carbon tax for years it's -- making -- making really interesting points here however.
I mean even mother Jones and even liberal think tank -- carbon tax would have little to no economic impact or environmental impact.
On on the climate and what they're saying essentially is what is better.
Is lamenting that -- -- cleaner energies like solar instead of visiting carbon tax is just gonna annoy everybody.
Hit the poor really hard hit commuters really hard.
And not -- a lot toward you know basically helping the finances of the US government does this little caught -- -- lock -- for carbon tax go ahead.
Well Liz I think here is interesting question and I agree with you that -- be no economic impact I think on the environmental impact the whole idea that these carbon based fuels would be tax.
Would force a look at solar and wind and geothermal would allow those technologies to operate on a level playing field right now.
Our oil and gas and coal industries get twenty to fifty billion dollars a year in federal subsidies this would be a way to take a whack out of that and allow all technologies to operate again on the.
Level playing field yeah I you know ultimately I think the free markets if if they're not battle with will allow all the evolution of all these alternatives and -- happen over a period of time.
Ramming them down our throats at such an expense that lives laid out is that outrageous but to me bill you know we love -- on -- show what have you back soon thanks a lot.
