Okay -- my question really is how strong is the sentiment that's emerging for more tax increases.
Well let me say what -- what you know we had a couple of disagreements I vetoed a couple of different bills in this recent session of the general assembly.
But what I'm really proud about Stewart is that at a time -- record surpluses here in the Hoosier state we just passed another honestly balanced budget.
That maintain our status as I believe the fiscal India the country's strong reserves pay down debt.
And even while we increased funding for roads and schools we passed the largest state tax cut.
In Indiana history lowering the income tax by 5% and we just want everybody around America know Indiana is.
Is open for business taxes are going down -- cut red tape why why did they want that's my message were determined to tell you got a great record obviously.
You one of these stand out State's small government low taxes give me growth you've got it.
Why would they want to raise taxes in that environment why.
Well the -- this specific bill that that you're referring to had to do with an issue just a couple of counties.
About a tax that had -- and as an attempt to to put it back into place and we respectfully disagreed with the way the general assembly.
Had gone about doing that and that's working its way through the process but.
You know what -- want you in your viewers to know is there's broad.
Broad consensus here in Indiana.
That was able to come together around what was the largest state tax cut.
In our State's history we permanently repealed the inheritance tax I believe at this point -- the only statement country that lowered the income tax.
And we've got business tax cuts financial services tax cuts into effect which in combination with everything we've done on education reform.
Everything we're doing on workforce I think it's the reason why you're seeing Indiana received the notoriety.
We -- receiving I believe we're we're unquestionably the best place in the midwest.
To do business -- -- one of the best places in America get you know notorious.
On volume company you can -- like to hit itself but tell me what.
What's your unemployment rate.
What is -- growth right and tell me do you have a selfless and -- state.
We have the largest surplus in our State's history when I became governor a little while ago Stewart and but.
But you point to the issue that I think the most about and that is unemployment Indiana's eight point 5%.
It's too high we got a quarter million hoosiers that are out of work it's one of the reasons why I said to our legislature.
That even though we have a strong balance sheet even though we've been advancing reform.
In education and in economic freedom becoming the first mid western state to be right to work.
I thought it was important that we doubled down.
On lowering taxes and cutting red tape and Indiana because.
I believe that less taxes less regulation.
Is gonna mean more investment and more jobs and has got that done in this session of the general assembly you've got your field laid out but have you brought in the jobs -- your right to -- -- -- cup the red take you cut taxes got all of that.
Have the jobs floated because you've got unemployment rate by half -- -- Well we do end that Indiana's growth rate has been stronger than.
-- -- the overwhelming majority of states in this country were encouraged by the trends that we see -- were absolutely determined.
To continue to tell -- story around the country and around the world you know -- at a time when so many states are debating.
What taxes -- -- and by how much as I just mentioned we just passed the largest state tax cut.
In the history of our state we just -- we just lowered.
The income tax I signed a moratorium.
On any new state regulation until we do a full scale look back.
To make Indiana even more business friendly all of this combined with our education reforms.
And in a real focus on workforce you know I'm determined and now I have the tools to do it.
I'm determined to make career vocational education a priority and every high school in Indiana we're gonna do it here it's about workforce -- education innovation.
Less taxes less regulation.
That's how people are gonna know that Indiana's open for business just a suggestion governor you start running ads in Illinois.
Crossed the state lines come on over bring -- jobs over here because we'll -- you ride just.
