Apple's -- -- developer conference kicks off today during what has been one of Apple's longest product gaps in more than a decade.
But -- announcement of Apple's iTunes radio -- the company back some of the shine that it has lost to certainly didn't today for an exam of Morningstar senior equity analyst.
-- hello Brian good to see -- thanks for -- what was it.
About Apple's announced because we showed before a line of apple and pandora which would be its biggest competitor.
With this music service what was it about -- about the -- that made -- Stock go down -- endorse stock go up.
Sure well I don't cover pandora so it's tough for me to comment on that part but on the apple side of things I think iTunes -- pretty much what expected I think it was a free service.
-- suspect that maybe there was some fear that apple would integrate more tightly.
With the music content that people already have on their devices may -- there are going to be some killer features that would really happened in a nail in the coffin of pandora.
I'm not sure if we saw that today acting put apple came out with -- that -- radio.
Is -- good service that will hopefully keep people attached to the IOS ecosystem but perhaps not something the changes the game.
Let me ask you this is as we talk about the different products or lack of products that came out today ahead an analyst -- -- the last hour and say that it's gonna be fourth quarter first quarter.
Before they're going gonna come out with something meaningful but they -- -- new product category.
That he said.
Would really change the game that -- be BI watch that could be an apple television.
If you were to bet on some things what would you want to see out of the company.
Share well I think if you're looking at at new products and again I think those are.
Areas for incremental growth I still think the bigger story is iPhone and iPad but if you're looking in new products.
I think the I watch probably makes more sense just because I think it's easier for apple to push that out on its own when you talk about an apple TV.
Yet to work with the content companies yet to work with the cable companies and then on top of that the development of four K ultra HD products is coming out.
Probably fifty years down the line before it's.
Priced properly after the average consumer so does apple come out with a new TV.
Knowing that a four KTV is gonna -- back -- -- down the line there at those are things that are kind of out of Apple's control.
-- I watch seems to be much more in Apple's control some maybe that comes first.
Right after Steve Jobs died we were told that you know he had another eighteen months and stuff that was gonna come out after he died it's been more than eighteen months.
Frankly other than some rehash -- like -- the mini iPad which seems to be competing more with Kindle and then -- any else.
We haven't seen a lot of that new stuff that was promised.
-- right after Steve Jobs died does that disappoint you.
I was a little bit again I think it just highlights the complications involved with TV.
And the content side of working with all the different parties -- -- needed to get those new products out.
And I think a lot of what he is talking about was the iPhone 5 you know enhancements to the iPad I mean those are two.
But we were equivalent -- yeah we were told her what we were led to believe was it.
We're talking about big things that he had another eighteen months.
A big story game changer like like an iPad or or like an iPhone a new product.
And that is something we haven't seen.
I agree you know I think it's tough to say exactly what he was referring to again you know I think.
He could've just been referring to the iPhone and -- had pipeline it's tough the year and I mean I think the areas to watch her are the TV in the -- and the I watched.
And to the extent that investors were looking for that for growth going forward.
Yeah I think there's been some disappointment but obviously the stock as disappointed as well so I think it's solid and that's more than being taking care of at this point.
You know Brian I mean apple is such when it comes to secrets they are the king of the secretive and Steve Jobs was to watch guy that we I think a lot of us expected and I -- -- come out but that could be maybe.
And it that your next year you've got about a -- right now personally made today's press too because again we saw a lot of volatility to the -- side.
On apple not just it did Apple Stock continue to go down during the afternoon but pandora's stock went back up.
We hear more more about I radio -- finally get the -- radio announcement of you see a pop up -- pandora so it seems like there's someone out there betting against.
Apple and -- for pandora.
Well yeah I would not be buying apple based on the -- radio where or anything along those lines -- -- -- radio.
The -- is just the service to keep more customers attach the ecosystem so apple can sell more phones later.
In terms of what it did in the last hour I think you could just as easily be by the rumor sell the news perhaps -- some investors that were hoping for a product announcement.
A lower cost -- a bigger screen iPhone some of those sort of things I wasn't expecting that I think most people weren't expecting that.
But maybe there are people buying on the hopes that something could happen that.
That's what I would make of the price action.
Again I I would not buy the stock based not on the radio can't Frankel well -- so my -- up for a -- firm Morningstar thank you very nice try and the so what.
