So here's another situation.
At the very -- clearly.
-- allegations here that someone at the RS committed a very serious crime.
That had the effect of chilling the speech you know a political organization that happen to be on the wrong side of the current administration.
We'll talk senate Republicans call of our investigation of IRS targeting conservative groups that we know.
But it goes way beyond the kind of groups are thinking that we didn't now until now the national organization of marriage is suing the tax giant.
Not for singling it out but for getting too much information on the organization how John Eastman is over with and that organization joins are right now.
To explain what's behind this suit John spell it out for me what are you guys.
Suing -- Well -- is very simple in march of 2012 are confidential tax returns.
We're disclosed by somebody from within the Internal Revenue Service.
To our principal political appointment put up opponents the Human Rights Campaign.
And we know this because the PDF document that was posted on the human rights campaign's web site.
Hendrick actions on it now on our computer technicians were able to on layer the -- actions we could see the underlying original document.
And it had internal IRS markings on it.
Well that's -- disaster -- John that's even scare because that is.
Someone from within the IRS.
Clearly leaking this out and getting this out.
Into the hands up folks to do deliberate embarrassment and harm to you.
Well who and we should point out the reason the Human Rights Campaign and others who want our list of donors.
It's so that they can post them on the website harass them and intimidate them and and scare them away from donating.
To the cause of traditional marriage and by the way today.
Hasn't this that I remember they eight -- wealthy individuals and gave money to the Romney campaign last year.
Who were all targeted and broadcast of the world to see.
Several -- getting audits from -- All of them exonerated those audits but a lot of them paying big money just add their name cleared.
On that it would clearly this would.
-- -- -- -- but it clearly does and I think it's no accident that the head of the Human Rights Campaign at the time.
Was also serving as the national co chair for the Obama reelection campaign.
-- look a look that this this federal statute of that protects your private income tax returns.
Is is it it's a felony for anybody in the -- asked -- to disclose that information.
Now we're a nonprofit and we have a portion of our income income tax returns that have to be made public.
But they're also portions of our tax returns the list of donors included.
That are as private as your individual tax returns and like I said it's a felony.
The reason it's a felony goes back to Watergate.
Back in the early 1970s this is one of the charges of impeachment that was already drawn up against President Nixon before he was forced to resign.
And and they and congress in 1976 changed -- disclosure penalty from a misdemeanor to a felony 5000 dollar fine and up to five years in prison for doing this and yet we've gotten nowhere with our request for investigation to identify the perpetrators.
To bring indictments and then also there's civilly liable to the national organization for.
Marriage for the damages that they cost to us.
Well clearly the Justice Department itself things suspended this warrants criminal investigation which it's conducting now of the IRS.
Which obviously begs this question for you.
Well it -- under what we have for this and and we asked for an investigation a year ago.
In the department does is that adds up to the inspector general over treasury.
We never got the response from the investigation as they're obligated to do -- they identified anybody that committed criminal conduct.
We've we've sought three different times with Freedom of Information Act requests the status of the investigation.
And there and their latest response is well that the very identity of the perpetrators and see that taxpayer is itself protected from the law against disclosure that he violated.
-- -- orwellian what where what what what we're witnessing.
All right John thank you would keep us posted on this John -- On the thank you leave an -- to -- -- -- it would have considered -- -- this was not an organization that had.
See your liberty -- patriot in its name.
If this goes beyond some of these other organizations.
National organization of marriage noting that would have sort of like a telltale trigger.
So -- those who were opposed to it to go ahead and target it.
That's why so many are beginning that -- think that this is much bigger.
The near conservative groups are Tea Party groups or just a few that might not be within the administration's line of thinking that this was much wider.
Many more individuals many more groups some having nothing to do with what was originally that the suppose a target.
That's where this is a big deal this is information that was clearly leaps from within the IRS.
And give it to folks.
With no good intentions.
All right so.
