Much unemployment rate down to seven and a half percent of April 1 of the big headlines today but as we dig deeper youth unemployment.
Sitting much higher.
With over 24%.
Of sixteen to nineteen year old and 13%.
Of twenty to 24 year -- Still struggling to find a job these numbers some say are significant because youth unemployment.
And the problems associated with that have led to massive uprisings already both in Europe in the Middle East and as Juan Williams joins us now Fox News out of Washington to talk more about all this this this isn't something I don't burst our bubble on an otherwise sub bright day for.
The economy in the markets and everything else -- but this is something we should be worried about -- some number of young people out of work.
Got to let me just explain to your -- air you know what we're seeing in Europe right now in terms of social unrest is largely rooted.
In the high unemployment rate among young people.
It has that depressive effect it has a destabilizing effect from a political structures.
And especially at a time when you know folks are talking about austerity is a necessary step to try to get.
High budget deficits in line.
The other thing to say as you know this is they.
Happy season and graduation you've got two million more young people about to get out of school and come into the job market in the next month or so.
The question is what kind of meaningful work and those folks expect them.
If the last two years are any indication it's just not there you've got a backlog of people looking for meaningful work on in addition to the people who are getting out of school this month.
-- older people staying in the workforce to either because they have to because they want to which I guess.
Then you have fewer jobs available is there -- political solution in your view to this to this problem here in the United States.
Well a political solution would be added spending I don't think -- that's that's going to play too well at the congress right now so.
It wouldn't be that you target some kind of job creation effort at young people and in specific let me just add.
At minority young people because you see among African Americans I think it's eighteen to 2920%.
Among Hispanics 12%.
So you have -- targeted in a very specific way and I just don't think there's the political will.
Among older Americans to do it but again.
I've given the political instability we've seen the eruptions in Europe.
The question is at what point does that.
Erupt here in the United States does that erupted -- the kind.
Economic recession -- is almost the depression for young people become a political.
Answer that question you need when you posted but I would say.
Probably not are we different culturally than what we see in a lot of these other countries that have had problems with that that type of political unrest.
What were much more conservative country and I think we're much more politically stable than those countries.
But the fact is look -- you know you can't.
I mean I this is part of the equation when we think about what's going on in the Middle East as well as in Europe.
You can't just sit on young people but especially -- young men.
And say hey you don't have much of -- future or you're gonna have to wait because of the economic circumstances the moment.
Yet people don't think about -- they're impatient they want bigger share of the pie and now.
And when -- when you say that to them then you're opening doors not only to.
Political unrest that is we're -- but.
You're opening the doors -- too.
Black market our market type of economic activity that again is not good for the society that then leads to more criminal activity.
This is this is a is there a prescription.
As -- -- -- -- Aristotle who said you know poverty is the precursor to revolution.
-- you're always greats and -- Reaching in the -- solvable but everything and this is serious and the philosophy major where you're good about as -- just got a job many of the -- I think my my my mother is that what got a job that they give philosophy.
Do you aren't as -- a good job of it but -- -- thank you -- play a few.
