-- -- -- -- If you're in the market for a laptop right now.
This bring your -- -- Walt Mossberg is here with his annual spring laptop buyers.
Nobody read about it in the Wall Street Journal and Walton joins us now and all things digital from Washington DC the journal's personal.
Technology columnist Walt good to see -- and great see you guys were confused again buying laptops that's very disappointing from what I've read your column.
Well here's the deal.
Last year at this you -- to the easier one in the spring one in the fall.
Last year in the my spring guide.
I said look windows it is coming out there's a lot of new laptops gonna be coming out take advantage of it so.
He can hold off hold off point to the fall in the fall I sort -- -- Windows -- -- the selection laptops that are actually out.
It is now you can go home by one in there at least that's my advice.
And ten when I.
When I took a look at it over the last week or so and are we going through the stores and so forth.
And you all reported this that one reason.
For the big plunge in.
Laptop sales that we saw last quarter was that.
It's kind of admit that in this that is what I call the stumble by -- by that computer makers some people don't like windows eight and that is an issue.
But they also have made the wrong kind of computers for windows eight.
Too few touch screen computers are in the stores and those that are there are.
Much more expensive than what windows buyers typically go for.
Mac buyers of course are used to more expensive prices but not windows -- secondly.
A lot of these guys try to meet these convertible machines can be both a laptop.
And the tablet and they turn out to be OK laptop.
At a pretty heavy thick.
Tablets so what I'm hearing is that they understand -- they're trying to regroup to try to get more touch screen machines.
At lower prices and so once again I've had to say my best advice if you can do is wait.
Walk talk about it won't quit I still find interesting is when you look at the Macs in the Mac air book in particular that -- the wind.
Apple's known for touch screens and these do not have touch screens.
Well they don't that's right.
I don't know what apple is planning but I don't think they're planning to touch screen on the Mac any time soon -- -- a reason for that.
That it is you said they are known for touch screens are trying to make and sell more than anyone else but they are in that form of the iPad in the -- phone.
The Mac operating system is is not designed.
For touch screens and in fact.
Neither is the traditional windows operating system it'll work on on on touch screens and windows eight.
But the real touch feature of windows -- is something new that they've laid on top of the traditional windows -- so.
Some people would like a Mac with touch screen.
The MacBook Air seems to do very well on.
And I really think it's a great combination of wade and thinness and -- goodness and speed and all that kind of stuff.
-- so I don't expect to touch screen from them anytime soon.
-- -- -- this really quickly CEO Blackberry yesterday you have made some comment stupid.
According to -- that all tablets will be basically dead in five years.
I I can imagine you buy them.
I don't I think the tablet is a big deal I think it's here to stay.
I think -- will evolve of course they may not deprive the five years is a real long time intact in May not look like today's tablets but.
You know he.
I don't see it I don't think so that Walt always good to see you gave back this breaking news in Boston thank you -- coming on as always thank you so I care about it's great to see him.
