-- -- so they are announcing stepped up recruitment for veterans and their spouses under the joining.
Forces initiative and this is -- in August of 2011.
Mainly by Michelle Obama and doctor Jill Biden is really their program and they made the point today that President Obama and Vice President Biden -- just kind of on the sidelines pushing this along but he.
He's set to happen and challenge American companies including a 160 fortune 500 companies to hire 100000 veterans by the end of 2013.
Now the -- only been in existence for about a year and a half and -- -- Either hire or train 290000.
Military -- -- spouses so they've almost tripled the challenge to today's announcement was to highlight these achievements and also to step up.
The recruitment process and challenge companies over the next five years to either hire or train an additional 435.
I just really -- president Obama's introductory remarks at this event and his point was that every one of these vets coming back man or woman.
Has some useful skill as a -- must fit somewhere in the look what.
And I think I spoke to hire heroes for actually story plastic on some of the challenges that come along with trying -- -- and I'm doctor Biden brought up this morning that military spouses and families relocate on average about ten times more than the average family does in this country.
So once they're done with their deployment hiring our heroes at about 70% of -- That's don't want to relocate again for a job and many times are going back to rural hometown area -- so while there might be training programs available that doesn't mean that there's necessarily jobs.
So that's the one of the issues -- -- in finding jobs for them is that they just think.
We cannot move again we need -- settled -- they called it a decision.
You know the heart rather than you know a decision you're making with the year -- really gut decision you want to go home so maybe it's to his or her hometown or their spouses hometown where they're relocating -- that's one of the major obstacle.
Is there any particular areas they're looking -- to increase employment -- what imagine is for instance that the the medical field out there.
Has to be a place for a lot of these guys who saved lives on battle.
Absolutely -- they brought -- I know -- Obama also highlighted data management he was saying you can.
The responsible for all of this intelligence -- these huge convoys out in about a week -- absolutely manage a conference room which is so sure I think it's about taking those skills and and to -- resonate to highlight this -- you haven't -- I'm humiliated over your time in service and making them work for the crew that you hope to have one.
And in general did that companies the 160 fortune 500 partners that they -- in this op.
But stepping up it appears that yes they are definitely stepping up I know some of the major names that we heard today -- UPS Wal-Mart Home Depot the Blackstone Group AT&T and JPMorgan Chase so hopefully they meet that 435000.
In the next five years that be great milestone and it -- -- we got more and more coming back as we wind down and Afghanistan and it's it's an ongoing project that actually there is 735000.
Unemployed back some 2012 and about 200000 of them are post 9/11.
-- even higher unemployment rate the national average all right.
