Judiciary hearing today our first -- protested the rush to pass the gang of eight immigration proposal.
And joining us now senator Jeff Sessions.
-- member of the judiciary.
Armed services environment and public works and budget committees.
Senator good to have you -- this -- first your reaction.
To the Schumer McCain.
This is a way they've they've done this -- process they've reached an agreement in secret.
And they have agreed to stick together on all the major principles in -- bill.
And so it's not surprising that there are telling the world they are not going to consider any other.
Way to deal with people compassion like they've been here and giving -- a full path to citizenship.
Now in my view -- -- far.
I'm quite a number of years.
That after 1986.
Anyone that -- the country illegally should never be given every benefit.
That we give the people who come legally and I think that there's no moral -- legal case.
On to provide full citizenship to people who have -- -- our country illegally.
The the gang of eight.
You are have.
Ask and senator Roberts senator Grassley.
Have asked for it more information on how immigrants access to.
As you'd find -- eighty different means tested benefit programs.
Are what the impact on the budget would be and the economy.
You still have not received a response.
This seems egregiously.
If you roll.
Two reasonable requests on the part of colleagues in what is supposed to be a highly collegial.
Well first evolved they don't even know I think apparently give it not much concerned -- They don't even know how mean people will be allowed into the country legally in the next ten years on -- their bill.
I ask about that to -- and senator Schumer had no Hampshire on to the question in the Christian Science Monitor is how many people will be admitted.
This is what we know we know that they'll be eleven million people illegally here but on a guaranteed path -- citizenship.
Over a period of ten years or so.
Then you have four point five million and in -- family base.
-- senator -- I've tried I've got in Iraq if we could we're we're looking at a picture of mark of senator Marco Rubio right now talking about illegal immigration in the senate.
What I'd like to do though if if I may ask our producers and our director.
Please if we may for just a moment we'll go to this senator in just a moment.
But if we can't focus our attention on.
Senator sessions right now is he is -- responding to my question a senator if you would go ahead.
Yeah so we know they'll be eleven million people plus a four point five million on that would be immediately legalize.
Eleven -- -- being here illegally now.
In -- in addition of that it looks like there will be at least a 50%.
Annual increase in the number of immigrants into the country.
Which would be another fifteen million so right there you -- in about thirty million over the next ten years.
When the current immigration flow would be ten million.
So polling numbers showed him a majority of the American people think the number legal numbers to -- now.
So the message going out -- we don't have tougher enforcement.
And implying they made it would be less.
Immigration this is dramatic increase and then there will be huge cost.
Because of most of the eleven million and the families that they will bring through chain migration most of them they'll qualify for benefits either.
After ten years are -- later -- because they've.
Tried to Bart.
Over a period of time like this site here -- costs financially -- -- the country over time.
Is this is this information.
-- they say this first I am mixed I am very disappointed.
That the senate.
House of Representatives the administration.
Has not set forth and the Republican Party and Democratic Party line.
Eight and independent objective study of what would be.
The result the impact of a public policy choice here.
I know you have done your -- -- struggle to do precisely how to bring as much information or The Heritage Foundation has done.
As much on the -- similar studies similar our judgments.
But we we don't have that independent objective assessment of what the impact will be.
That is to the American people who were being foreclosed from -- participation in the hearings.
This is -- range.
The -- if you will it it seems that conscious.
Highly manipulative effort.
-- part of both parties.
To shut down the voice of the American people and to resist.
A dialogue and a discussion of the acts.
Because I think most Americans want this issue resolved.
They want a rational effective humane solution.
But there is -- if you will a conspiracy of confusion.
On ignorance about the very important issues you were bringing up many of them here tonight as you had throughout your career.
That we -- after -- to assess why is that the case.
They don't want American people -- fully understand the ramification of this legislation that people who've written this bill as some of the most.
Opponents of very large immigration flows -- not concerned about.
On the costs they don't want to talk about the -- they have a political goal to achieve they think it's right thing.
About those of us.
And the American people those of us in congress need to know.
What it will be just like you said we need to know how many people will come and many of how much it will cost.
-- what the ramifications.
Are how much you'll impact wages on and job and on employment rights in America it will hurt they're working American.
Of these numbers there's no doubt about that.
The political -- has got to give way to what's in the best interest.
Of America and the American people a lawful system that -- decently and -- compassionately people who have been here long time I'm for that.
I'm foreign immigration.
On a system that allows immigrants to come every year.
But -- -- awful it should serve the national interest it should bring -- -- of people who have the best chance to be successful in America.
Not the ones that don't have the education on the line -- skills that to be successful.
Senator knows that the -- rational questions.
Senator we thank you very much for being with us senator Jeff Sessions -- -- -- -- We'll have much more.
