This American entrepreneurs dream came full circle.
-- -- and co created -- it when he was still in college at UVA in 2000 impact.
Eight years later President Obama held a wet humid day with the American people on that -- platform that -- treated while he was still in his two more.
Today -- more than seventy million unique visitors per month.
But will he means he's busy with his two other startups hit monk and -- -- as -- -- sixty tech companies.
-- vaccine Alexis thank you so much for coming in with us and you managed.
Three different startups -- have read it bread cake and hit -- he also invests in sixty other new tech company.
How you manage -- different roles and made sure each company gets the right amount of attention -- tell that it.
Well you know I'm lucky because I work with really awesome people you know I'm on the board it read it now and we've got an awesome team they're growing that company.
You know I'm an advisor to hit on these days in America thirty plus employees in San Cisco -- And you know bread -- operations -- here in New York again it comes right back to people.
When I think of all those portfolio companies have the privilege to be able to invest in some awesome founders and these founders don't need -- don't -- -- -- -- and holding -- ask someone who can be.
I think there's like you -- a firefighter has played like alcoholic a firefighter much less heroic yes.
But also able to dispense useful wisdom and you know as -- -- -- lift X wings out of the swamp.
Vietnam I just want to be hopeful and if it weren't for.
Relying on such awesome people I've seen this at every step of my career I would be able to have the stuff that I do so when we -- you mentioned the resume of the future so what do you think on -- and what -- people will be focusing on -- they want to get hired in this -- tech world star.
You know more and more employers like myself are looking at what you -- We are not his interest in where he went to school what you're GPA was I frankly could even tell you GPA.
Of the last few people apart in a few cases where they went to school and I'm I'm most interest in what they have done what they've made.
What they've built.
And when I speak to university students today.
I'm I'm begging them please get started start building stuff -- -- -- your dorm room whether it's starting a blogger YouTube channel or reading some code for an iPhone -- start building stuff.
Because your at this point your life when you can take these small little risks to be creative.
And you know if you can show an employer that you.
Created something -- you've taken something from idea to fruition maybe made some money here are grown some users along the way like that that.
Speaks volumes keeping its smallest starting a blog though because -- -- -- start a blog or write some code it's two very different -- depends.
For for a lot of these things.
These things that would've.
You know normally may be in a pre connected world would have just been hobbies.
These things that now.
Because the Internet can grow to be much more you know could start out as a symbol flawed but -- simple blogs have turned into book deals later because they.
Created lots of unique content and sustain it over time built -- following -- for your ship is something we always.
Wanting to educate people it's unfortunately something really hard to teach from key studies.
-- in a classroom -- really just comes down to doing.
And a lot of what I see I see the founders.
Taking too long to realize is that failure is an option.
It's that you we've spent our entire academic careers being very worried about failing because will be held back right I'm not saying this is not to say failure -- But what it means is if you're going to take chances -- -- or you're definitely gonna fail you're gonna learn.
Most of it along the way whether it's for mentors -- from Google searches are just from experience.
The best the best instructor for entrepreneurship is is just.
Hunt for torture itself so -- big voice in the tech world.
-- -- more women involved intact and get them starting there this is this is such a big deal whether it's women -- -- or people of color like.
The the exciting thing right now is.
We have thanks to -- -- this awesome platform for people who when they get access when they get skills to make the most of it.
Can do great things can share ideas of the world -- have ever been injured for.
And you know this is something that -- I've person working on for the last few years working with great nonprofits like donors choose dot org.
Which make sure that we as donors can -- with our laptops -- classrooms.
In areas of need and actually fund specific projects -- there's a teacher wants to bring an iPad.
-- her classroom we can -- every dollar goes right to that project we can see the students were -- -- put it this is it's it's so.
You know have women like Sheryl -- speaking out of being role models which which is very important.
It needs to be something that doesn't.
Doesn't stop once these people leave school.
You've publicly spoken out about sexism in the world of technology and even on your own site and -- it sixteen people.
I'm making sexist comments and -- be using this site in a way you didn't intend for -- So why did -- speak out was that a tough decision to me he spoke out against your own users so I spoke to the tech community.
Because is we have a responsibility.
To make this.
As open of an environment as possible because like I said the Internet doesn't live up to its fullest potential unless we get everyone on board making the most out.
And you know this is the there's the gift to the curse for any one of these social media platforms.
Used to board -- Twitter read it.
When you give someone a megaphone to speak their mind most of the time it's actually really great because we get to hear from voices -- music here from but sometimes they say offensive things.
And what I would hope is that you know as we try to set a tone for the discussion and for the dialogue and for really important conversation that we need to have.
We do so in a way that is civil we do so in a way that actually.
It looks like the kind of conversations we have in real life you and that's you know there's there's always going to be this challenge when someone is at a keyboard.
You know they have the courage to say things they wouldn't normally say in person now sometimes that's a good thing yet sometimes that means someone who who may -- -- if you comfortable getting up in front of a million people speaking his or her mind can do so and and and say the things that we should hear.
But other missiles that downside -- things they wouldn't say someone's face and and and I hope that and I really do believe that most of the people in the tech community really do want to see a place where the best ideas win from.
Everyone -- And and and we need to make sure creating good environment for for new art he -- Fox Business dot --
