One of the union leaders who says she is evil is the head of Newark, New Jersey teacher's union Joseph del Grasso.
The top of the show you saw a minute meeting attacking charter -- he also doesn't like for profit competition.
Market driven education and Wall Street I street.
-- -- got a lot of applause for that show thanks for joining us also here is Bob -- an advocate for school choice he.
Made a movie about education called the cartel.
Joseph he says you're basically a cartel dislike a conspiracy.
Of people trying to.
Keep prices up competition.
Now you're wrong about that why would I want to keep competition -- William descended on the clip.
You said that then it's -- with a Smart oh -- its bad.
I said that I don't like for profit education.
That has nothing to do.
-- competition.
If school -- wants to compete -- -- will be there's nothing wrong with that so not a problem need non prime target -- in a way non profit private schools are okay for a voucher.
But according to you it's nonprofit it's OK but I'm not for religious institutions be involved in public education.
Now if you want something different for your child like my mother did for me.
Find another job.
And get it for your -- -- -- -- -- -- at school.
Correct that I went toward an officer David if you add it all agree you have money people have option gets paper -- gets -- to address they can even move to a better correct right but if you don't have money.
Your view is -- really should should be no other options apart from new Republic's that's correct you should be stuck -- -- there if you want out too bad.
Why you have the money you discuss it if you were a responsible.
Parent.
You would make sure that that's who.
In that community works you know how would you do that if you go to school board and they ignore you.
That's management competition would -- -- -- -- need more unions which I agree I think good I don't remember saying that.
But the -- -- says I wanna go to this other school because the schools -- failing my kid.
Or maybe it's okay school specialty school would do better for my kid I want to take that tuition -- leave.
With that operational problem.
And go elsewhere you say -- what -- you -- afford it you can do what they figure why why can't the seventeenth Al that we spend to send kids to your Newark's schools why isn't.
Fifteenth now that -- giant I have never called the police in my life can I get my money back.
I've never called the fire department.
Could I get my money that -- just let me ask you from my Kozey guess if it if Newark where there are a number of murders and shootings every day.
If I had enough money can I say to mayor list -- mayor I don't want to use of police force give me the money and -- hire my elm but -- Like -- -- okay this is what and brought -- we are no reasonable ways to pick your own police force there are reasonable ways to picture -- schools and have the money follow the kid.
If you don't hunt that haven't for one well we -- most of -- schools aren't unionized and none of that does that those school that has nothing to do would have because really we have charter schools.
Used my union coal because we had a resource -- Free I don't care whether they join the union or not that has nothing to do -- I really.
Preferred not having -- -- you support the expansion of charter schools in Newark.
Ones that work.
What I can't support is the fact that we have charter school.
That are not working and we don't hold accountable if the charter doesn't work -- in this competition.
If it's a bad one.
Why would parents -- it would just go out of business -- -- the market working not really the way it works -- people that's the way couldn't work if if he didn't have all these controls didn't work that way that would be fine but unfortunately it doesn't we have a chart is when you stop -- from working by not allowing for I don't competition.
-- for profit why should education come down will profit because everything that we would have problematic way help change the whole world and loses -- I mean come on I don't think I lose my sold by having TV station and radios and -- -- -- -- they give money -- -- right thing to me.
Anyway but what I'm trying to say is that.
Public education is the last bastion of democracy when you walk into the door of -- -- good performing public school there's no religion.
-- not supposed to hear about.
The Democrats the Republicans.
Libertarians.
That if the her.
-- -- -- To get that the American dream and education that's supposed to talk about American values.
And and deliver a quality education that's what -- for.
-- much and I much of the rhetoric is that him and I talk at each other when really we should be speaking together about how do you improbable.
To do it for one thing -- to tell our quick secret here here's the secret.
He wants it looking like the real issue here rich corporate take corporate rising privatize -- is against public schools.
With the corporate people -- his problem it's -- increasing numbers.
And hundreds of thousands more every year of mostly black and Hispanic parents who want out of his schools they want now -- signing up for -- -- they want vouchers.
Let's just take a brief break from the complicated discussion to my favorite part of Bob's movie called -- tell.
This is one where you guys may agree a former school principal says you can judge -- school district by the number of fancy cars in the administration's parking -- Behind -- -- Mercedes-Benz parked on that -- school district.
So Bob what's your point.
Well the fact is -- we're often told that there's just not enough money public education as Michelle Lee was talking.
And that in fact if you find places like like -- -- over 20000 dollars per student being spent 400 south for classroom.
We to live -- god like and now.
I actually played addicted to wait -- -- a -- if -- voting how I don't work teachers no absolutely not post to may.
Boy oh boy for what to me if I mean that would be magnificent just disappears in the government -- excellent -- it's worse than that when you really think -- it we're talking about.
A school district whose budget.
It's the same is run in the city a billion dollars now where that money goes it's certainly not in the pockets of teachers.
-- the custodians or anyone that no there there is no get rich scheme for a teacher.
But unfortunately.
If what you get up to it if I have to look at it say it is true there is a lot of waste -- time.
And it's tax Payer money and attitude -- -- it and we're out of time we -- hip hop heads surely they'll graft so thank you Bob thousand.
Now.
