Governor of Nebraska stalls in his push to eliminate income taxes in his state.

Joining us now as the man who runs as they do south.

Governments Sam Brownback of Kansas now he's trying to get rid of income taxes and he's witness here today.

You go to step five haven't you.

It's terrified every time you go to change tax policy you've got people that say I don't like the way you're going and you got a number of people say I don't.

Really understand and so therefore I'm against that and then you've got a few people -- say look we need to do something here let's get it done.

So you really building off a minority base that you're gonna eliminate you want to eliminate phased out and -- -- the state income tax -- to -- a you can replace it with the highest state sales tax is that a plant we've continued the current sales tax which was increase in my predecessor panic.

We've also increased some are severance tax which is an oil and gas attacks and then we wanna do the rest of this off of growth.

We -- about 40% of our income is off the state income tax.

So you -- -- work it down over time it's not one of those things you can just do all -- wants and hope you get it done because that you've you gotta balance your budget at same time that you are going for growth you've got the absolutely I'm gonna say the conservative position that the way to get growth and -- State's economy all the national economy is to lower tax rates so that people keep more of the money that they and spend more on it and the -- -- that's the theory that that's not just a theory that's the practice that's what works I've got thirty years of data.

To show that if you're the high tax state in the region you're gonna lose people everybody around you and we have accepted Nebraska we started to lose -- them in the last couple years.

So I think we -- stayed on the old path but I will guarantee which way that -- go that's towards a a slow net out migration.

We need growth we need people and that's what started happen and of these new policies your opponents say it's not fat.

Because -- going from attacks which affects rich people -- income taxes to attacks which affects everybody the pull people included in the same way.

The sales tax not -- -- your opponents well I don't think it's fair that our kids leave the state and go somewhere else to find a job.

Where to find an opportunity.

I don't think it's good it's good that we have a slow net migration out of the state over a period come I don't think it's fair that people can't find a job.

I think that's a much more practical way to look at this.

We need to grow and to create jobs and opportunities that started to take place we had the record at record number of business formations and our state last year.

We -- at zero already on LLC in sub best income.

So we're seeking tax refugees from all over the world particularly over the United States and you're starting to see it happen.

Moving to Kansas.

And the low or no tax states Texas Florida.

-- Louisiana wants to go this way you wanna go that white Oklahoma North Carolina.

There's that side of the fence that says you -- or eliminate taxes and you'll get growth it's the national debate at the moment is that it really is and it's been played out just the way really you would expected to be.

If you can't you don't change America by changing Washington you change America by changing states are you gonna get it in your state.

Nebraska thank you don't get it well look -- we've gone already we -- six point 45.

We're now four point nine were at zero analysis of -- and can we got a plan from the legislature right now obligated to 3.5.

We we are we are getting it's -- you've got to work it down over a period of time.

And in the starting to have effect.

Do you have national office in view along in the distance -- I've got state office and -- Kansas I have five children wife and I do I -- sparkles congratulation as a hopeless.

-- -- But what I'm saying -- I wanted to be able to come home.

I want -- have an opportunity Kansas and say that opportunities as good as -- can find somewhere else and they haven't been able to have that.

-- Brownback we appreciate you being with -- -- my pleasure thank you.
