I like that -- ratings agency Fitch now saying that sequester will prompt negative ratings action for the US.
Consequences of the cuts being overblown in Washington Fox News contributor Juan Williams.
Joining me now with his tape one -- you so much for coming on the show.
My pleasure you know if you are watching that this of the story of the day today seems to be this scheme of got -- With the different White House surrogate to come out have sad you know planes are gonna bought the Scott is set to the point where I mean Jon Stewart is piling on he did a whole bit.
Yeah -- about how silly it is this idea they're not gonna give kids shots and he had a kids celebrating about that.
You know even the eight.
To be over dramatic perhaps about what it could mean.
Now -- politics.
And you know what you're playing on poll numbers.
Melissa and so a lot of the poll numbers.
For example right now there's a pew poll out its its 52% of Americans think you know -- sequestration is a bad idea that they don't like that approach.
Now you also have to -- although.
Americans overwhelmingly think we need to do something about.
The debt in this country there's just out of control only -- it's gonna have implications for future generations by.
Let's put that aside for a second just on pure politics and the Democrats want -- to dramatize this to a -- the well to the point that you know just it was gonna mock them.
But they are making a clear impression.
And the argument then extends to Wall Street in terms up will -- have consequence whether with a rating agencies or in terms of the stock market.
And it could it damn.
Erica we eat and we are so far from the next election for everyone you know it -- and people's memories are so short does -- matter whether the public thinks is a big dealer and or not or should these guys be focused on what -- -- actually do.
Why does matter because.
Here we all are very sensitive it's it's like you know the earthquake as the size monitor around -- we are.
Listen to the polls and the public response.
That's why Obama -- Obama's bid on essentially a campaign trek.
Doing this -- of the potential damage to try to push the numbers so that Republicans especially when -- Republicans from moderate districts.
Would say hey we can't afford.
To stay hard line against President Obama in these negotiations but he has had not had success.
Yeah no I mean you make a great point in that you are inside these guys had to -- you understand them from their better than we do from here.
So what is your opinion about whether or not something's gonna get done here when it's gonna get down or how close we are.
All.
So here's the deal right now.
The Republicans are gonna remain hard line on -- you're gonna have sequestration take effect march 1 you're gonna have basically as you were describing earlier.
The photo on Friday with the leaders and President Obama -- White House.
But I think right there what they will say is you know what.
Don't think the sky's gonna fall on March 1 instead -- -- gonna now look at a bigger deal going towards the march deadlines for budget for the continuing resolution.
And we are engaged in some kind of negotiation so.
I think that's gonna be the message to the American people in terms of trying to hold up consumer confidence and secondly to the markets in terms of investor confidence.
That yes we are talking don't think that the world ends on March 1.
But the reality is that sequestration is going to impact -- It's gonna happen I mean given that do you think it was a mistake on the president's part when Republicans that we're gonna give you more latitude you know if you don't want your talking about.
You know how devastating it would be to cut vaccines for little kids will give you latitude you can decide what you wanna cut -- change the rules here should he have taken them up on not offer.
Not -- would've been a suckers game because then he would have been the one to get blamed by voters for any cuts.
Or programs that did get -- didn't get -- you know -- you close this army or may be basing your donor did you cut this program for kids burns and this program and grandma.
So that.
Politicians and take a lot of you know equivalent that's politics and not actually solving -- -- so frustrating want I don't know how you do it Juan Williams being so much.
Hey you know what I wanna see a picture you to drive of that -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Well as much for that think you asking you shall receive one we'll get.
