Is on the rise but critics argue that robot -- assisted surgeries and aren't any more efficient go back to for the patient but laparoscopic surgeries and they cost a whole lot more money.
Doctor David somebody is the chief of robotics and minimally invasive -- I can't say it is even harder to do not.
Center in New York -- -- with more on the benefits of robotics -- it's a fascinating.
Scifi type of.
Technology that we have now in hospitals like you for being hit our pleasure have robotics really change who are in the process of changing how we go about surgeries.
Yeah Ashley I think it really depends on what procedure you're talking about.
That is certainly minefield when you talk about prostate cancer and for the last decade it really revolutionized the way we -- we went from open surgery.
Where we have a lot of blood and then transfusion longer hospital -- is -- truck.
And to the point where people are going home the next day.
There's less -- certainly it's a very delicate instrument and the -- what is used.
To do those nerve sparingly to -- the big -- and obviously it's helped a lot of people -- their content -- again the experience of the surgeon and the person behind the -- what.
Is even more important -- the technology so that's a big message.
Now it's moved on for women for hysterectomy and the one of the big article is that this recently came out is that they're using more more of these robotic surgery.
For women and that's really big debate whether to better than laparoscopic surgery.
Or not and and we will still waiting for the data to come.
It hasn't shown a huge improvement in cost certainly well you mentioned cost that I mean ultimately always seems to come down to dollars and cents how much more expensive is it to use robotic means for surgery as opposed to -- Traditional what the cost of the world by the is about two million -- so there's a big initial cost and every time you use it.
It's about two to 3004 all of these instruments that we use now if this surge and it is efficient.
And the problem that we're having right now is that we've gynecologists.
Are excellent laparoscopic surgeon so we don't see huge benefit -- robotics but again.
Person to person and hospital to hospital they really you have to look at their program and make sure that the patients are not staying in the operating room much longer than usual that's going to.
Add more to the cost a more expense -- insurance companies cover.
Robotics or -- -- to a point I think it's an excellent point because from the business standpoint.
The reimbursement for robotics and laparoscopic -- the same after the hospitals have to really think about this very carefully.
He just -- the robot and spending -- ahead of time is not going to.
Turning to that the cost benefit unless you have -- excellent program surges that are efficient fifteen that are really going at it.
And making sure that the patient is not spending much longer hours in the operating room and quickly seems to me that.
The training is gonna be be very different because almost -- pilot in a simulator that's pretty much this type of training -- have to do of these republics it's funny that you bring this up because that has been what I've talked about now for the last ten years.
I don't think you should spend the best hours in the operating to teach.
Those simulations and other labs.
-- -- way to go to really teach our residents and students before they come in well wealth that fascinating -- some money thank you so much for thank you for having me appreciate it.
Yeah I -- to practice in on me if I'm gonna volunteer at this.
Not all about about it I it -- quarter until time for stocks as we -- every fifteen minutes we called families.
On the.
