-- thank you very much Republican Party looking well essentially for a new business model in many ways we have -- -- -- Sanderson the vice president of the Winston group.

DC based polling and consulting firm with us today to maybe.

Give this some ideas on how to put together that's the kind of a tall task -- -- you know three to five minutes here I didn't set the bar very I have so the first thing I -- show you this that and this is about youth voters which really the only -- you need to know from the last election that the president basically dominated.

The youth vote voters under thirty their businesses ran away with right -- -- -- so.

We're gonna talk about what about high fixes that -- you have three specific ideas which we like which are all data tested this is kind of a problem.

But a lot of people set up and then -- your future New York Times magazine partly about this where the Republican Party was kind of outdated.

No that's not a word but you know the money -- era politics is here in the Democrats were way ahead of -- so you have three ideas the first.

Understand how media consumption has changed what specifically does that mean do you.

So for young people they're not watching the 32 TV spots that get -- on network television right you know during a campaign what they're doing is they're watching TV online or watching -- TV shows you know.

After the fact and you're seeing ads pop up then they consider things like The Daily Show in the -- their report to be new sources nominate one out of four considers its -- -- source so.

Out of the Republicans and you've got tested this right is that right at that data but then how to the Republicans responded that -- -- started to Twitter account hope for the best even though.

There's right criticism that they didn't do enough of that right -- you have to beat everything can't have an if you build -- they will come mentality just because you're on Twitter and FaceBook doesn't mean.

-- the message that's compelling.

And that's sort of what might my second point is about is about having solutions.

Right Ahmed a message that this compelling so that you believe that Republicans will solve the problems that matter -- that -- -- because it's about -- it talking about.

And this gets into what's going on right now the budget debate the president talked about it -- -- talking about solving problems right.

And not just -- -- no no we're not gonna do that no we don't wanna do that because the president came up with that so people are angry when you test them.

They are so I did some focus group -- -- that that were mentioned in that New York Times magazine piece that over the weekend where.

I'm I'm -- -- people how they felt about different policies and they said you know what our national debt is way out of control.

I do think the government is trying to do too many things principle why didn't you vote Republican fees were focus groups of Obama -- right leaning think Republicans had solutions to.

How -- you -- help me pay my student -- how you gonna help me get a job.

So for Republicans are message of we need to cut spending we need to get rid of -- doesn't you know create jobs it's it's not resonating right.

So here's a test of which on the spot right now because the president has had just spoke about this -- Obama -- A little piece of what President Obama had to say about the budget his argument against the Republicans -- you can tell us how the Republicans.

If they're using your model should respond I -- here's the president.

The ideas the Republicans proposed.

Asks nothing of the wealthiest Americans or biggest corporations.

So the burden is all on first responders are seniors or.

Middle class families.

They doubled down in fact on the harsh harmful cuts that I about what they slash Medicare and investments to create.

Good middle class jobs.

And so far at least what they've expresses a preference.

Where they'd rather.

Have these cuts go into effect -- close a single.

Tax loophole for the wealthiest Americans it's pretty effective politics in some ways because it -- you're gonna.

Hurt the most vulnerable among us yes but I think Republicans can have an opportunity to come back and say it's time to cut spending now because this next generation.

Is going to have to pay the bill ultimately at the end of the day I think -- -- issues of spending -- that's a huge area where Republicans.

And young voters there is real synergy there.

They get the other you Brett young voters that's the final point right we show that graphic at the beginning.

But if they get it that they kept to get some of these social -- issues out of the way right that those don't become the main focus and you can focus on the more the fiscal -- Exactly so you have some of these issues where there is really clear divide between -- most young voters are -- rather Republican party's official like gay marriage exactly but rather than just saying well that's going to be a deal breaker issue.

Republicans need to present something that's compelling enough that it overrides -- deal breaker issues.

Haven't economic plan that is so compelling and so powerful.

It all those other things won't just a matter -- -- say -- we're not worried about that as much but here's our economic polite and should be told any Mitt Romney didn't make social issues remain part of his campaign but for young voters they felt that that was at the forefront Democrats effectively made it.

A central issue -- Republicans just had no response.

All right now what we'll talk to -- using the data on this -- something Republicans got a lot of criticism I think rightfully so in the last election so thanks for -- -- -- gonna happen -- -- Anderson with a stake.
