President Obama has signed an executive order on cyber security it is aims to boost protection and on nation's dams power grids banks and other critical infrastructure.

By sharing information on cyber threats between the government and companies it also requires the government to.

Come up with a voluntary standards for cyber security within a year.

Question is is this enough to fight the rising threat of cyber attacks let's bring in formal White House -- securities -- Howard Schmidt how it once again thanks for joining us.

It's amazing to me that -- Leon executive order to increase the sharing of information between governments and companies that oversee critical of the sort of why is -- being done already.

Well that's the problem is we is we had proposed -- legislation I was at the White House last time.

Congress asked us to tell them what they need -- we said we need is some legislative relief on sharing information.

Yet -- -- mired down that was submitted may have 2011.

And here we are that that nothing's been done to date.

But I'd also add that Tom Ridge and I were talking last week.

In February and our fact ten years ago tomorrow.

We released a national strategy disbursed cyberspace which once again ask congress to do things but nothing -- happened.

Intrastate and so we have also call for a voluntary -- -- by its very nature voluntary means and may not happen.

Well and that's the issue because when you look at the nationalist -- understands technology.

Which is gonna be driving this this activity tremendously respected in the private industry.

Are respected across government as the body they can bring everybody together and sort of say what are the best things but the problem is that when you look at.

The business incentives to do this people question is is that enough do we need to have.

The power procurement better contract thing that says you will not only provide these services and banking finance water got distribution.

All these things but.

Part of the contracts gotta be that you're gonna take care cyber security is well.

The other thing when you look at the regulatory bodies across the government.

-- -- in some cases have conflicting there are regulatory -- saying one thing.

That affect various industries you know and businesses -- -- no more government regulation how cumbersome would have -- businesses.

Well that's one of the things that's really good about the the executive order -- tasked the -- that the government to say.

Go back and look at the things that are going to be helpful don't be duplicative don't be conflicting.

The regulatory bodies get your act together look at this and help private industry do a better job.

Doing better the business of security.

In your opinion -- -- what's the biggest risk this country faces from hackers that want to do harm to loss.

-- and and it's interesting because it did the critical infrastructure the industrial consult controls where systems that electronics which is if you would you control.

Our dams are telecommunications a lot of the things are now being connected to the Internet.

That's the thing you have the biggest impact the second piece that -- the intellectual property we're just getting.

I every piece of -- -- -- property and private sector and government pulled out and distributed all over the world and who knows -- that's gonna end up from an economic perspective as well.

I got about ten seconds hello it's simply are we doing enough to counteract the threat of cyber attacks.

We're we're not and that's the reason that the the president had to act on this that's the reason congress needs to do more but also the -- -- Really have to take this seriously because it's good for the economy but it's also good for the national security we do more yeah absolutely all right how much -- formal White House cyber security coordinate how it has always thanks so much.

Thank you actually.
