A case.
President Obama wrapping up a meeting with labor leaders on immigration reform.
This ahead of another gathering this afternoon -- the president does speak with CEOs from some of the biggest companies in this country also on immigration.
Peter Viles has the latest from the White House Peter her.
Why -- and Charlotte's right this meeting with labor leaders and progressive leaders just broke up here and we're gonna get -- and copy -- she's the executive director of the national immigration law center in Los Angeles.
And she just walked out of the meeting with the president and many you know thanks for joining us on Fox Business.
How -- the meeting -- It went really well it was a very productive meeting I think the president and we are all feeling very optimistic that this is a moment that we really can achieve.
Common sense -- reform this year.
One of the issues that came up was border security and enforcement which of the gang of eight senators on the hill.
Democrats -- Republicans say is a precondition.
For creating this new path to citizenship.
What did you hot hot hot -- how did your discussion go around that issue.
So we informed the president that from our community's perspective we feel that it is critical that we have.
Eight cleared direct road to citizenship that's not contingent on additional border security and the reason for that is we believe that this administration has spent more resources.
Over eighteen billion dollars on securing the border and interior enforcement and that what we really need is to ensure that people court here and documented at this moment.
Actually have a meaningful way to become citizens they want to become citizens they want to pay taxes and participate in our democracy.
But as you know senator rubio a Republican from Florida.
-- that's a deal breaker for him.
If if he does it that there has the sense to be a trigger process more enforcement more security in and then.
-- clear pat -- but path to citizenship.
Yeah I think that tells the -- is in the details right we want to see what does that what do those triggers look like what requirements what benchmarks what metrics when will we know that the security that the border is more strength and I'm -- belief that one of the other major enforcement provisions which.
We are prepared to look at is mandatory.
I would be thirty times more likely to be denied and adopt under the system currently that it's accurate that it's fear that there lever protections and due process protections in that kind of -- system.
And and as you -- -- we have to -- but one of your colleagues say that the president actually was was sympathetic to your position on this on the force and its security is that.
That's I think the president also wants to ensure that there is -- -- to citizenship that's meaningful and meal.
Mario and thanks for joining us on Fox Business alright Dennis and Sheryl.
Big story we're gonna stay on it back to you Peter -- thank you very much like the White House --
