Has provided crucial seed money to something called the global fund that's a -- with a very simple title but a very crucial and complicated task to carry out.
When you think Bill Gates -- usually think software genius Microsoft windows the -- behind the personal computer revolution.
But that was a lifetime ago today Bill Gates has his shoulder and mind behind don't -- revolutions.
One that'll bring quality healthcare to the world's poorest -- -- the engine -- fit the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation kicking in the first year in 2002 with global health as its top priority.
The engine really began to -- up in 2002.
With the formation of the global fund which to date has one point four billion dollars committed.
The main goal of the global fund to provide treatment for people living with HIV and to curb malaria and tuberculosis.
To the deadliest health -- on the planet.
The fund -- floated by foreign aid the amount provided by the United States is less than 1% of its annual budget.
But the rest provided by Canadian and European governments along with the private sector.
Personal donations have flooded in including one from gates' best pound.
Warren Buffett giving it gigantic vote of confidence to the foundation in the form -- -- 310 billion dollar clinch.
The current top priority for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Polio eradication.
Polio still remains in three nations Afghanistan Nigeria and Pakistan the foundation works closely with international and grassroots organizations.
To help distribute polio vaccines -- far flung reaches out.
The effect is stunning the number of polio cases has been reduced by 99%.
And the greatest success India now polio free for two years.
Worldwide efforts to provide safe vaccination have been measured by the number of child deaths over the last few decades.
That number down from twenty million to eight know.
Tuberculosis deaths have fallen more than 40%.
And 100 million people have been immunized in Africa with the vaccine to protect people from meningitis -- But now a disease of the different kind is rearing its head in the form of the current economic crisis which has threatened funding for various efforts around the globe.
But the foundation is depending on the US government and its private donors.
To continue efforts around the world to help save the lives of those who are less fortunate.
