Just about to vote on a temporary extension of the debt ceiling this is gonna come at any moderate -- and standing by live on Capitol Hill.

Watching that vote as it unfolds for a stretch.

The good afternoon -- next few minutes -- -- the house will vote on this proposal it suspends the debt ceiling until May nineteenth and it also says.

If the house doesn't pass a budget lawmakers don't get paid until the end of congress if the senate doesn't produce a budget.

Though senators don't get paid until the end of the congress which is January 1 one of the members is actually headed to the house floor.

To vote on this the next couple of minutes congress and bill Cassidy Republican of Louisiana.

I get a vote.

Our rich I'm voting for my guests can you believe it.

The senate will actually have to pass a budget they've not done so in four years even though it is the law that they do.

If nothing else is the minimal obligation to the American people and so is gonna be great if we pass this they don't get paid we don't get paid less -- budget is passed I think that's a good thing.

There are no spending cuts as part of that that has been a sticking point for Republicans it's been a hard line for Republicans and yet you are raising the debt ceiling for a few months with no spending cuts.

That a problem.

The -- the so called -- west ration which is the automatic cuts are coming right down the pike.

Right after that there will be what is called to continue resolution another opportunity to rein in that spending.

So if you will were all impatient to get our fiscal house in order.

We're all impatient to make sure that Medicare or Medicaid or secure.

But it but in the step by step process I think we get there.

They're still major differences between Democrats -- Republicans has there been any movement on either side to move towards the middle and Republicans acquiescing to more revenue or tax increases that's what Democrats want.

And Democrats.

Acquiescing to structural changes or spending cuts in entitlements.

First as regards taxes I'll point out that Obama that obamacare is 500 billion dollars in taxes are kicking in now.

And the bill that was just passed just before are just after the New Year's 600 billion in new taxes there's a lot of new taxes which by the way I oppose those.

On the other hand Medicare's going bankrupt in twelve years I'm a Doctor Who works treating uninsured patients I know the importance of the safety net.

They we have to come together to save Medicare.

-- -- there's a budget a blueprint I don't think we get there the good thing about this bill we established a blueprint we can begin moving forward on saving Medicare.

And Dennis you wanna jump in here as a congress and Cassidy what should measure do you think is more important than no pay tell the senate passes a budget.

Or the extend debt ceiling into mid may and -- this measure truly survived but both of -- there.

-- the most important thing at the United States needs get its fiscal house in order.

If this is what is required to get the senate to pass a budget so that we can begin to work and bipartisan ways to get there.

That should be the message we have to get our fiscal house in order just like the average family that writes down a budget who lives within their means.

We have to do that as a country until there's something on paper from the -- that we can't start the message should be we're gonna get the senate to hopefully pass a budget then we go forward.

Obviously on the fiscal club debate when that came down but at the same time there isn't a stark difference between.

Revenue increases and tax increases your Tea Party member you're not gonna go -- -- that looks or smells like a tax increase.

How though do you succeed and that by this time around when there was somewhat of a bit of failure frankly in December.

Are both the bipartisan Erskine Bowles commission has wells aggression Congressional Budget Office has said that the better way to -- -- raise.

Revenue.

Is by eliminating.

Deductions and loopholes.

Making the tax code flatter and fairer you raise revenue.

But you also set the stage for more economic prosperity.

I'm all for that I am all for a way that we can have a pro growth economy -- where someone has a better job of better wages.

Next year as compared to this year I'm all for that and I could support something like that.

And congressman you know -- -- The country of Russia has just adopted a 13%.

Flat tax.

But I've heard any talk of any kind of tax cuts here kind of disappeared once they re election was over what he sat.

Well first the president is all about spending and raising taxes he's raise 500 billion and obamacare 600 billion in this latest -- so the president wants to raise revenue.

Number one number two though Republicans are still talking about a flatter fairer tax rate.

On the other hand until the senate gives a budget we don't know.

Where we're gonna put their money.

So I think going back to the beginning of this interview.

We have to get these senate to commit to -- budget priorities.

Once we have that we can see -- much money we need and what's we have that we -- line what our priorities are with our revenue that's when you begin to talk about tax reform.

I would like to say -- optimistic that this bill will get the senate to the table but.

They haven't done a budget for four years so maybe not.

-- -- we -- that -- -- go back and we noted that the vote is lending that roll quick before we let you go the president in his inauguration speech seemed to be talking a lot about bipartisanship do you do you take the president at his.

-- Well I am optimistic I'd like to think and inauguration is a new beginning.

But sometimes a president says things he doesn't absolutely mean remember for years ago we campaign on -- rid of the deficit within four years.

And it's hard to say that and -- be better -- -- but somehow know that he didn't achieve that.

And so we as a country have to hope for new beginning.

I am all about pro growth policies -- preserve Medicare Medicaid get our fiscal house in order if the president wants to come to the table with that I am glad to meet with the president.
